You’ve got to hope it bodes well for some improvement next season, especially for some of the younger players who have only had experience with Chavez at the big league level. Yes, players have to execute, but this is pretty damning evidence that we have a lot of talent to maximize still.

Unfortunately Nimmo isn’t going anywhere. He has a full no trade clause, and even if he didn’t no team would pick up his contract. Best you can do with him is platoon him in the field with a fresher pair of legs and shake up the lineup order.

It’s kind of wild the Mets did this on T Swift album drop day. Just cutthroat all around.

I do think Stearns was probably watching the Yankees put Ben Rice at first base and getting ideas. I wonder if they would move Baty to first due to his arm strength, although I do think his defense at 3rd is best. I would not necessarily be opposed to trying Ronny there if they keep him.

Has Clifford’s defense improved significantly? I had read some scouting a while ago that he was a bit of a mess on that side of things. Made it seem like they just stuck him at first to mitigate the liability enough to keep his bat in the lineup.

Probably McNeil; will be interesting to see if they try to shop the last year of his contract and eat the money to move him elsewhere. I would say Manaea also, but he is locked until ‘28, and perhaps he can be useful again if he has the “foreign bodies” removed from his elbow in the offseason.

All the problems we saw late this season are fixable ones and it sounds like organizational changes are coming (hopefully new hitting coaches at least!)

And maybe the infield and the lineup will be better without a constant carousel of daily changes; maybe Mark Vientos will be a better 1st base than he ever was at 3rd.

Solid makings of a star rotation with McLean, Sproat, and Tong (with maybe some more seasoning in the minors to start next year). Possibly seeing Benge and Williams next year at some point.

In the minority right now, and maybe just a grizzled veteran of Mets season collapses at this point, but honestly I’m already looking forward to spring training. Rough weekend for sure, but I think we are looking at a fresh start with lots of youth, and this team needs it badly. #Mets #MetsSky

No, I think you’re right, and I’ve come to agree mostly. The offense and maybe a little bit the defense left games on the table before the break, and since the break it has largely been the pitching.

So unfair and devastating. Don’t really want to watch this team without him on it, even if they make it past today somehow.

Deeply, terribly, cruel and disappointing season for this team and I honestly hope it ends today and we can all just go home.

You would certainly think and hope he’s done enough to earn the job to start next year.
