Gerrymandering is, of course, stupid (bc districts ought to correspond to actual communities), but it's effects on legislators' voting behavior and elite polarization are modest. If one party is willing to gerrymander, the other can too without large costs to the things we actually care about (1/2)

I'm of the opinion that CA/IL/NY should proceed with redistricting efforts regardless of the TX outcome (and that TX Ds should continue to fight). I don't think we should wait for them to be ruthless for us to be ruthless. They don't wait for us, and the stakes are too high.
