Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing? 2? Questions I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up. Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Agreed. It’s one thing for a game to take a few hours to “get good,” but 25-30 is absurd. Also, it just doesn’t have memorable characters (IMO).

While the film Children of Men is one of the best SF films of the past 30 years, the EL James novel upon which it is based is pretty terrible.

Also, as a bonus opinion: Novellas are criminally underrated as an art form. Give me a fluff-free story taken to its logical end point and walk away.

Possibly FFXIII—shitty by FF standards, but that soundtrack is wonderful. But then, even the worst FFs tend to have decent-to-great soundtracks.

I've been enjoying DK Bananza for a while now, but it's the first game in a long time—and maybe the first platformer—that I've played with the sound at a minimum. It's just empty and absent passion, to me anyway.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

Brains really do suck sometimes.

Sometimes a panic attack smashes into you out of the blue, and sometimes it builds and builds in the background, a daily presence slowly increasing, gaining strength for weeks on end until one day you wake up and your chest and limbs are just -heavy- and you’ve been clenching a fist in your sleep.

Weekend movie watching update: new Naked Gun is as fun as the first film, One Battle After Another is a tense and electrifying ride, Death Becomes Her holds up beautifully, and I finally get the obsession with Kpop Demon Hunters.

So glad to report that PTA’s One Battle After Another is indeed terrific—which is a relief after the total misfire (IMHO) that was Licorice Pizza.
