Remarkable.

MSNC: "I want to reiterate this has been 100% peaceful."

Seconds later, LA County sheriffs start firing on the crowd.

Yet again, "law enforcement" deliberately escalated.

The Library of Congress is an amazing resource. We use it consistently, as it has some of the largest collections of letters, journals, and other papers from the Eastern Shore Families and their friends, acquaintances, and business transactions. And so much more - #voicesoftheeasternshore

This is my favorite quote from the letter:

"Many idle reports have circulated unworthy the attention of any candid mind, but still the Trumpeters will do their duty and many take a delight in echoing their idle tales."

Keep in mind: the NEH’s budget is 0.01% of the entire federal budget. This is not about savings - it is about the destruction of the Humanities and the critical thinking abilities that they teach. πŸ—ƒοΈ

Gossip...Spilling the Tea...EscΓ‘ndalo!
As it has been throughout History, so it was in 1803 when Elizabeth wrote her sister, Anne, to tell her all about the scandal involving her sister-in-law, Sarah U. Teackle, before she married Charles N. Bancker. πŸ—ƒοΈ

@bolddreamer.bsky.social may do something like that eventually, but right now...we're just trying to gather together all of the History and show people how remarkable these people were...especially the Ladies...because they were well educated, intelligent, and understood the politics and society.

True, Ann's sister, Elizabeth had 14 "lying ins" in the first 10 years of her marriage to LIttleton Dennis Teackle - of those, 2 were born alive, only one (her daughter) lived (Elizabeth's son died three hours after his birth.)

It is my theory that Ann's bout with Jaundice likely sterilized her.

Thank you kindly! Though my era is a bit earlier I love having things like this in my Library!

Let me know if you are looking for anything in particular. I will go through my articles/DLs for you. Tomorrow is a Dissertation writing day. As you know, PhDs don't earn themselves!

I think I own everything that JΓΆrg RΓΌpke has published that I have access to. LOL. I'm torn between wanting to call him "The Standard that we should aspire to" and saying "Dr. RΓΌpke, would you be kind enough to save some scholarship for the rest of us?!" LOL

That's really fascinating! I'd love to read one of your papers. Where are you published? I study the use and manipulation of religion by wealthy elites as a means to control the greater populace in the Roman Republic.

The System isn't rigged against parties changing ideologies or focus or what-have-you. Historically speaking, it's happened numerous times over the last 248.5 years. Hell, it's a constant in various nations since Khufu became Pharoah. Biggest issue is familiarity: humans like consistency, not chaos.

This is the opening line in the passage and my favorite:

"With you, I grieve for the loss your country has sustained in the death of your great Hero. Few are the ages that produce such characters, but we shall hope, as America is yet in her infancy, that she will produce many who will emulate him."

A fun and poignant thread, but also: I swear there's a kind of neurotype compatibility thing that's key to who can follow which lecturers like this. I had 3 'marmite' lecturers as an undergrad, 1 in Social Psychology and 2 in Medieval Archaeology.

I am disappointed in Spike Lee.

A Director as talented, intelligent, and socially aware as he is should have movies about:

1) The WWI 369th NY Inf Regt - AKA - The Harlem Hellfighters

and

2) The WWII 761st Tank Bn - AKA - The Black Panthers

and what they dealt with AFTER the wars in the US.

He just went by James Campbell and it was under this name that he wrote Early Victorian Gay Porn for a living.

Yup!

Turns out that James Campbell was gay, moved to London to write Gay Porn after taking money from Dad's bank, and that's why his Uncle disowned him.

You can still buy the books.

It was a bank that his father was on the board of (and partially owned) - and he left for London...leaving his father to pay back the money. At the time of James Reddie Sr's death in 1852, he didn't know if his son was alive or not.

Once in London, James Campbell dropped the "Reddie" from his name.

James Campbell Reddie was the son of James Reddie and Charlotte Campbell (ADC's sister) and was educated as a "Writer to the Signet" - a special class of Scottish solicitors who were able to create legal documents with the King's signet on them. However, in 1845, he borrowed Β£2500 from the bank...

When transcribing the Will of Andrew D. Campbell, I found in one of the Codicils that he had not only revoked the executorship of his nephew, James Campbell Reddie, but had removed him and ALL his heirs and children, should he have any, as well. My question was: WHY?!
