The one we're using now is far too simplistic to offer any policy guidelines that would effectively prevent wildfires. We know that in NS only 1% or less of wildfires are caused by lightning. The rest, 99% or more, are caused by humans. The problem is that the "human caused" wildfires could be any number of things: 1) a spark from a train (which caused the disastrous Lytton, BC fire;) 2) arson; 3) cigarette butt; 4) campfire; 5) farm machinery; 6) forestry machinery... etc., etc. (This could be an exhaustive list of as many possible causes as we can come up with.) The point is that banning people from the woods isn't going to prevent all the "human caused" possible ways a wildfire can start. We need to know specifically how different wildfires start so we can make informed policy decisions on how to prevent them during hot, dry, periods when the risk is high. Otherwise we are prone to implementing foolish, ineffective policies that will not properly address the known risks. Right now we are forcing people to stay out of forests (under threat of a $25,000 fine) and yet we are allowing heavy, forestry equipment to still operate despite the known risks that they can (and have) started wildfires. How effective is this type of policy implementation going to be to truly reduce the risks of wildfires? The truth is we won't know until we have a proper Causes of Wildfire classification system in place."

A ban for one should be a ban for all, especially for the industries that have an outsized role in causing these crises in the first place. #NovaScotia

Get rid of cars. All of them... We ultimately don't need them. We simply need public transportation and walkable and rideable cities. Connect communities together with public transportation. Cars, trucks, SUVs should be a failure from our past.

There is enough wealth and productivity to maintain life for the billions currently living on this earth, but not the lifestyles of millionaires and billionaires. They have to go. Saving this world comes down to this because left unopposed, the rich will destroy this world!

If you were born poor, you will probably die poor. If you were born rich, then you will most likely stay rich and die rich. This is the injustice of this word, and why efforts to make the world a better place requires making millionaires and billionaires extinct.

We need the Labour Standards Code updated to guarantee that before an employer can hire another part-time employee, the hours must be offered to current part-time employees. We need more full-time work for those who want it!

Nova Scotia workers do not have a 40 hour work week. Overtime for workers covered by the Labour Standards Code is only triggered after working 48 hours a week, which is 6 days a week for eight hours a day. It's time Nova Scotia entered the 21 century (or even the 20th) by having a 40 hour work week.

Why is it that over half of Nova Scotia workers do not have access to paid sick days? Why do we allow this? If you are sick, you should be able to stay home and not be cut any pay. Nova Scotia needs to legislate 10 paid sucks days now!!!

Banning ppl from nature should come with a discussion about fracking, mining, clearcut forestry & what #NovScotia is doing to contribute to this crisis. Political decisions are adding more fuel to the fires than individuals. Our leaders must shoulder blame & be the ones whose actions are restricted.

I love that Parker Donham thinks there is this all powerful "Bicycle Lobby" that has their hands on the throat of Regional Council. He says it with such confidence. Makes me chuckle every time.

Unfortunately, 10 councillors caved to Houston's directives. They had a chance to stand up and represent their constituents, but sadly they caved. So now they go in circles to try and save face, which is embarrassing. Especially for Austin, who was the most contradictory.
