when I think about the place I can't name, the institution, the site of the initial violation, I assuage myself of all good-girl worries. it was a pit of vipers, a funhouse horrorshow of adults acting like children and children shoved facefirst into grownup mud. stuffed to the gills with scandals.

why should I be despised for getting it so right the first time? for some it takes a series of middling attempts; for others of us, we arrive fully-formed. that's the magic of the big debut.
