Writers Guild of America East members at Hearst Magazines held a half-day walkout Tuesday after management failed to reach a deal on a second collective bargaining agreement with the 400-member bargaining unit. Their first contract expired on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Hearst Magazines Union Stages Walkout After WGA East Contract Expires The action follows stalled talks over pay increases, return-to-office requirements and a lack of AI protections

"Last week, the WGAE announced that 85% of the Hearst Magazines Union bargaining unit signed a strike pledge. The union also said more than 2,200 union members and supporters sent letters to Hearst management urging the company to reach an agreement before the contract expiration."
