They covered almost every surface in every room. Spider plants and ferns hung from the ceiling, ficus and monstera popped out of floor vases, herbs sat on windowsills. Serena looked over at a small cactus holding a prominent position on her desk. It looked fine, of course. Itβd been through much worse than a few days without water.
A little info about our protagonist...

But that wasnβt all. Iggy seemed so comfortable and confident that Serena couldnβt imagine him any other way than what she knew. A fabulous and bright (and slightly erratic) character trapped in a body that didnβt feel like his own. For all Serenaβs challenges with her inner thoughts and feelings, that wasnβt something she could understand. But she empathized.
Iggy is (*spoiler alert*) my first trans character. Being cishet, this was new, and I welcome feedback from the trans community (on whatever you can glean from this snort snippet, anyway π)

Oh sure, but I also have a strong mental imagery (hyperphantasia, if you will) and years of writing under my belt; I've never considered it a necessity, especially when funds are a concern, and I'd never ask artists for freebies
31.01.2026 19:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0βI grew up in New Orleans, raised by my mother, a fortune teller. And a damn good one, too. She was somewhat of a local celebrity. βMy father, nowβ¦ he was as different from her as two people could be, particularly in that time. He climbed the academic ladder to become a world-renowned physicist. βThe two met while my father was vacationing in New Orleans with friends. Despite their differences, they connected in a deep, profound way. Love doesnβt always make senseβ¦ but love her, he did. Though they lived in different states, they made time to see each other regularly for a few years. βOf course, mixed-race couples, ah, βwent against polite society,β shall we say, and my fatherβs friends and colleagues worried about his future. They convinced my mother to end their affair since they knew my stubborn father would not do it himself.
A small introduction into the man behind the Market...

It's very early days, I'm not even 100% positive this is the next story I'll write, I do have another in mind that's in the same universe as my debut novel. But perhaps once I'm farther along in one or the other!!
31.01.2026 03:18 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0halt! this is a bookish checkpoint.
last book: To Sleep in a Sea of Stars - Christopher Paolini
current: Somewhere Beyond the Sea - TJ Klune

next: The Fragile Threads of Power - VE Schwab

It suggested a fierce desire to believe in the unbelievable. If someone could escape their day-to-day grind and bring up a specific, happy time in life, why question how it came about?
Hmmm... wonder what 'It' is... π

Is Heated Rivalry a standalone or series? Does it follow the show?
29.01.2026 03:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Crazy name coincidences from my novel, Post #1
There were a lot of strange coincidences with names I chose for my book characters.
#1: I called two Japanese sisters Kami and Sakura.
My partner and I adopted two bunnies... With those names. AFTER I named my characters!

I'm not sure what she's going to look like yet, it'll be a whole new world building experience. Her favorite form will be a panther, which is a tribute to my young self who was obsessed with Animorphs and that's what I wanted to be π
29.01.2026 03:01 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I loved it! I actually liked it a lot better than his Cerulean Sea novels (please, Internet, don't skewer meπ )
27.01.2026 03:13 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Am I alone in being disappointed when I see an obvious spelling/grammar mistake or extra word that wasn't deleted in a book's first chapter? Should be the most scrutinized part of your book! It's not a dealbreaker, just ruins the first impression a bit...

I'd never heard of this series but looks up my alley, adding to the list!
27.01.2026 02:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0She's late 20s, and has a fear of making important decisions. She'd rather be told what to do and go do it. But because of her ability, she's expected to be a leader.
27.01.2026 02:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0She's a shifter in a world where about 50% of the population can shift into animals. But she's an "omniform", someone who can essentially turn into any animal they want. Most are "monoforms" (one animal), and a smaller percentage are "polyforms" (a few animals). But omniforms are incredibly rare.
27.01.2026 02:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I simply meant everyone is looking to make their own big money, and that's why traditional publishing won't work for every author, no matter the quality of writing, because publishers want what will sell to the most people.
25.01.2026 16:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I never said I disagreed, just correcting the assumption. I spend all day watching what's going on in your country and being happy I live in mine, imperfect as it is. And if this were my other socials I'd be screaming alongside ya.
