I bet a candidate could do well with โ€œyeah, I said some awful things online when I was younger, but I see why it was wrong, and Iโ€™m familiar with extremist spaces online, how young men get radicalized by them, and what we can do about it.โ€

Less good is โ€œitโ€™s wrong of you to care about what I said.โ€

Whereas focusing on true issues, like job loss, economic instability, and the rampant growth of capitalists is more true to what the real problems are here.

Its a claim people keep making that distracts from meaningful discussion about the real harm. If people's hatred of this rampant tech growth is rooted in "it uses water", they won't actually dig deeper. And as soon as they realise that was a lie, you'll lose them

Somewhere in the United States someone who invested their life savings into an inflatable frog costume business to the dismay of everyone that knew them is having the best week of their life and handing I Told You Sos to those who doubted them.

Do you think Iโ€™d explain my masterstroke if there remained the slightest chance of you affecting its outcome? I made the NYPD woke 35 minutes ago.

There are basically only two positions in the debate about AI

1. My ragebait
2. Your ragebait

Position #1 has lower barriers to entry (for me)

More than *anything* the people who actually know how technology works, who actually build things, wish that people would treat LLMs like every other technology, and be normal about them. Don't build a religion about them, don't force them on people, don't ignore the problems. Just be normal.

17.10.2025 04:34 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 971    ๐Ÿ” 175    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 17    ๐Ÿ“Œ 11

"I have a decent fluency in LLMs, and they have utility, but the absurd degree of over-hype, the way they're being forced on everyone, and the insistence on ignoring the many valid critiques about them make it very difficult to focus on legitimate uses where they might add value."

17.10.2025 04:32 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1456    ๐Ÿ” 229    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 29    ๐Ÿ“Œ 34

I get the point that's trying to be made here, but it's actually inaccurate. The *MAJORITY* of actual practitioners in the tech industry have a position that is neither of these, it's merely getting drowned out by these two loud positions. The most common belief in the tech industry is simple:

You're absolutely right โ€” starting a land war in Asia wasn't just a bad call, it's ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฐ๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ฐ ๐—ฏ๐—น๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐˜€. Thank you for calling me out on that โ€” really. I'll be extra-strategic from now on.

Would you like me to get cracking on those

Not really? Pretty decent local LLMs can be run on home PCs, and the bigger models are getting more and more efficient. If it weren't for this chasing of consent growth, it would be more than sustainable. This is a capitalism problem, the tech isn't really inefficient anymore

You sit, according to the polls, on the cusp of a historic political victory. You would be the youngest mayor in a century. Youโ€™d be New York Cityโ€™s first Muslim mayor. Youโ€™d be its first democratic socialist mayor.

I wouldnโ€™t actually be the first democratic socialist mayor.

Who would it be?

David Dinkins was a member of D.S.A., he identified also as a democratic socialist.

Thank you for the correction.

Very welcome.

AI will definitely make this worse, but this isn't new to AI. I mean this SMBC is from 2017.

This is more an issue of critical thinking than anything else.

Yes, both have to exist. But the context of this discourse is many leftists claiming the non violent protests aren't good, which misses that.

If this does (big if) result in the removal of a sitting US president and a change in the administration, as a result of citizens protesting, then yes it would be a significant moment in US political history. Maybe not "more notable" as they achieve different things, but it would be up there

The entire tweet is wrapped in jargon or vagueness to make normal things sound cool and politically intriguing. "KYR distro" is just mostly "don't speak to cops" and "info sharing" is just like... taking to people I guess?

Disagree completely, fascism is all about aesthetic and core to that aesthetic is being tough and strong, no one looks tough or strong staring down a weirdo in an inflatable frog - a confrontational, violent approach on the other hand gives them exactly what they want - "see they are violent thugs"

I have no opinion about the Maine Senate primary but "my guy is a world-historic political talent, and if he gets a primary opponent this is tantamount to him being forced out of the race" is a singularly unpersuasive argument
