Dear REAP Supporter, After thoughtful deliberation, the Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to formally conclude the work of the Religious Exemption Accountability Project (REAP). After the discovery of a serious internal issue that impacted REAP’s financial and operational stability, the Board took immediate action; pausing operations, assessing next steps, and upholding our fiduciary responsibilities. While we are unable to share all details publicly out of respect for privacy and due process, we are deeply grateful to the community that believed in this work from day one. We are forever thankful to our founders, students, alumni, volunteers, and donors who made this movement possible.

REAP began as a legal and storytelling campaign led by queer students and alumni, and grew into a national nonprofit advocating for LGBTQIA+ students at religious colleges and universities. One of our most significant contributions was supporting the landmark federal lawsuit, Hunter, et al. v. U.S. Department of Education. While the outcome was disappointing, the case made history by centering queer student voices in federal court and drawing national attention to the misuse of religious exemptions REAP will remain incorporated at this time for the sole purpose of concluding operations, fulfilling legal responsibilities, and preserving an archive of our work.
