Advent of Code - Did you get a Day 1 Star?
- file reading in the AP CSA style (for better or worse).
- records to capture the rotation as a String and a number!
- void main() and IO class
- Please don't judge how I dealt with the negative numbers :)

Advent of Code 2025

The Advent of Code only has 12 challenges this year, and there's no leaderboard. I'm happy with that - it starts to become a bit of a drain on your time about half-way through the month! #TeamCompSci

I was a Firefox user up until 2019, 2020. Then I switched over to Brave. Today I use Edge for work and Brave for personal use. Both are based off Chromium and are good. I like Brave for its privacy.

This is a good argument for not leaving Twitter. If we all stay behind, we can counteract these trolls, bots, and vile behavior. I never was a fan of Twitter and it's gotten really, really bad now.

I find that wearing glasses makes me look smarter by, say, 20%? ๐Ÿ˜Š Still working on the staying warm part, though.

I believe AI is already being misused by institutions, exacerbating all types of divides, not just digital. The economic divide immediately comes to mind.
Thanks for the blog post!

Functions in programming and functions in Maths this week! If you teach both, why not combine the two, e.g. if f(x) = xยฒ and g(x) = x + 1, then you could code both as functions to reinforce the programming concepts and demonstrate the difference between f(g(2)) and g(f(2)). #TeamCompSci

This year's edition of Rings of Fire!

Students are given initial height and velocity of the launched marble. Each group has to calculate the height of their ring at their assigned horizontal distance.

Our clocks go back next weekend (Nov 2nd) and we also get two 1 o'clocks.

Here, the northern states and California go back later - in September and end the school year in mid to late June. Growing up, we always started Sept and went until the end of June. But where I live now we start early and end early. I prefer the latter.

This is just one more tech tool. We'll see new jobs emerge just like when the PC came out in the 80s. Many people now have roles that didnโ€™t exist back then because of advances in tech. Some of us gained new skillsets. No different than what will happen now. In the end we'll be OK! (2/2)

I like your optimism! I agree... I see a lot of panic and posts made from a place of fear with many teachers worried about being replaced or something like that. Tech advancements are nothing new. Some will adapt. Others will not and stick to old ways. Skilled people will always be needed. (1/2)

I used a programming PBL approach based on how I wish I had learned programming and it seemed to work well. But now with AI, I need to adapt. I feel many students now seem more focused on grades and points earned than the process of learning and turn to AI. (2/2)

I liked your idea in the fb group to have groups of students represent procedures that when they come together, they solve a larger problem. I can't think of any good activities that would do that, though. (1/2)

This is a thoughtful response to the @nytimes.com article advocating calling on US education systems to make computer science and artificial intelligence mandatory components of K12 schooling (original article here: www.nytimes.com/2025/06/30/t...) #TeamCompSci
