100% this 👆 we need to use writing lessons to actually teach writing knowledge & skills!

Writing instruction should be authentic and experience-based.

Only teachers who actively writes themselves can truly teach the deeper purpose and reasoning behind writing — their intentions, joys, struggles, and choices — because they’ve experienced it firsthand.

The only way to teach the ‘why’ of writing is to be a writer-teacher. There is no other way. And to not teach the whys of writing is to provide children and young people with an incomplete writerly apprenticeship.
