I see good writing instruction sprouting in more places than ever โ€” but we still need to nourish classrooms with time, trust, and the belief that every child has something worth saying.

There is no lower educational expectation than believing a child has nothing to say for themselves.

Some great stuff here ๐Ÿ‘

'Teachers should reflect on how weighted their English curriculums are towards other subjects as opposed to explicitly focusing on the teaching of writing.'

100% this ๐Ÿ‘† we need to use writing lessons to actually teach writing knowledge & skills!

25.07.2025 03:45 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 1    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Writing instruction should be authentic and experience-based.

Only teachers who actively writes themselves can truly teach the deeper purpose and reasoning behind writing โ€” their intentions, joys, struggles, and choices โ€” because theyโ€™ve experienced it firsthand.

24.07.2025 14:04 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 2    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The only way to teach the โ€˜whyโ€™ of writing is to be a writer-teacher. There is no other way. And to not teach the whys of writing is to provide children and young people with an incomplete writerly apprenticeship.
