We lived near an hospital and I remember lying on the couch in our little apartment, exhausted from my mild symptoms, listening to sirens all day.

This is intentionally choosing to expose Black babies in one of the poorest countries in the world to a very transmissible virus that can cause long term liver damage for no reason, but to appease a cohort of white anti-vaxxers.

I am never going to get over the fact thar so many Americans died that corpses stacked up in nursing homes and hospital morgues, that refrigerator trucks had to be brought in for the overflow, and that the big takeaway from Important Pundits is there should have been *less* mitigation.

Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly, cautioned, each time someone is infected, the risk of long COVID remains.

β€œEven if you dodged the bullet before one time or two times or three times, it doesn’t mean you’re gonna keep dodging the bullet every single time,” he said.

being literally wealthier than kings and monarchical dynasties with no corresponding social obligations is extremely corrosive to both the individual and the body politic, and taking 95% of everything elon musk has would be better for him, personally.

Just like the narratives around trans rights and racial justice, this framing constructs "activists" as unreasonable, radical and holding all the power.

"Do you know how mean fat activists are if you lose weight?"

Do you know how mean everyone else is if you don't?!

In other words, the backsliding is real and serious. This is perhaps the most unfavorable that the public has been toward trans rights in quite some time. Republicans have successfully and effectively exploited several flashpoint issues, like sports, in order to shift public opinion in their direction, while progressives have been unable to effectively muster persuasive arguments.
Some of this may be down to an unwillingness to even entertain a debate, in an unsuccessful effort to maintain a unified front. Progressive activists and organizations have often been confrontational when challenged with dissenting views, leading critics to claim that these tactics left little room for actual debate. The net result, however, is the worst-case scenario for progressives and trans individuals alike, as a previously sympathetic public’s support of trans rights has completely unraveled over the last decade.

The anti-trans side made bomb threats to children's hospitals. They spent a billion dollars messaging this over the last 7 years while the Dems mostly stayed silent or ducked away. But somehow, they always seem to blame trans people for their own persecution.

A storefront in Hollywood glows during the golden hour. Some palm trees line the street it’s on. Circa 2005 maybe?

They used this building on Beverly and Gardner as the Peach Pit in the newer version of 90210. I drove or walked by it every day so would see them filming. One day while driving by, they weren’t actively filming and I saw Tristan Wilds. I leaned out the window and yelled β€œyo Omar’s coming.” He liked that so he smiled and waved.

I don’t usually take pictures within the city, but the last one seemed to be liked so here goes. I’ll be back to mountains, rivers and oceans soon enough I suppose.

Suburban wine moms will really be like "you believe in voting? that pales in effectiveness to my strategy, firebombing a concentration camp" and then very effectively firebomb a concentration camp

What women on the left already knew before the files came out is that men can imagine a world of class consciousness (Chomsky), a universe more expansive than ever before known (Hawking), a world where you can live forever (Attia) but not a world where women are fully human.

Point of no return: a hellish β€˜hothouse Earth’ getting closer, scientists say Continued global heating could set irreversible course by triggering climate tipping points, but most people unaware

The only biosphere in the known universe capable of supporting human life is being turned into a hell planet because most of Earth's governments refuse to stop trying to satisfy the insatiable greed of a plutocracy composed of people who already have more money than they could spend in 20 lifetimes.

There's a transmasculine version of this. If someone assigned female can become a man, it means there's nothing so special or powerful about men.

Each of us has the biological truth of equality between the sexes within us, as demonstrated by the ability of some to pass from one to the other.

Anyone who had genuine concerns about youth gender medicine would staunchly and wholeheartedly support social transition. Let kids explore their identities to see what works for them!

The fact that this movement opposes even pronouns and haircuts shows that it's just bigotry all the way down.

I do understand that. Writing in that way is still irresponsible, because it reinforces the idea that many people have that ai is indeed thinking. Journalists have a responsibility to present things as they are, not as they seem.
