Watching all these centrist pundits stress the “civility” of Charlie Kirk’s style without addressing the ugliness of his substance is giving me a renewed appreciation of how the civil, polite White Citizens’ Councils conned the same crowd into thinking they were distinct from the cruder Klan.

I shouldn't be shocked, but I'm still always brought up short to realize how many people think "civility" means "white people speaking in relatively calm voices" no matter what vile shit they say.

I won't quote-tweet our main character of the day, but if your complaint is that Charlie Kirk's words are being taken out of context, I'd encourage you to skim through the Media Matters tag for his name. They have hundreds of posts about Kirk and most have longer clips that give the full context.

Saying this again: there is a scammer out there targeting newbie authors, claiming I'm one of their clients. They use different names, and I'm already pursuing legal action. But I have never worked with a PR company, editing service, or book packager, so anybody saying so is lying, period full stop.

Texas Republicans are holding a Black woman, a Democratic state rep, hostage in the legislative chamber. They have locked the doors and have banned her from leaving.

Like a lot of people, I’ve not been buying much from Amazon lately. But I was just talking to an author in the sapphic books subreddit and they were saying their ebook royalties are down 40 percent since the boycott started. Forty percent! This got me reconsidering the boycott strategy. I still plan to get most of my books from Kobo and the library system — but I might go back to KU, since KU’s monthly payment isn’t going to impact Amazon much, but it the lack of it might sink some small, indie, and queer authors.

Good to see this being discussed!

Many indies ARE now on Itch, Kobo, etc, but many others are locked into KU. The 90 day exclusivity lock is something to bear in mind. It can’t always be FAST.

It’s a hard road to navigate & indies are doing their best to stay afloat while following the readers.
