Sigh.
Just read yet another piece about how "AI" data centres are harming people; in this example, by driving up their electricity bills.
Honestly, I think being in favour of "AI" data centres is akin to denial of the ongoing climate crisis.
data centers are driving up electricity prices for households — and price relief may not be coming anytime soon… Residential retail electricity prices in September were up 7.4%, to about 18 cents per kilowatt hour, according the Energy Information Administration... www.cnbc.com/2025/11/26/a...

"If Big Tech has the budget to put data centers 400 miles above the Earth’s surface, it absolutely has the budget to adequately compensate its workers on the ground. Big Tech cannot claim to be building the future while exploiting those who keep it running."

Is there no way to lock my account in order to block randos from following? Can't find it in the settings :/

EMPIRE OF AI is based on 300+ interviews, 7 yrs covering AI, and my time as the first reporter who got extensive access to OpenAI. I sought OpenAI's perspective throughout. For months they said it was coming. It never did. Pre-order here: empireofai.com.

Either you have time to genuinely engage with what someone said or you don’t
Tech companies are betting big on nuclear energy to meet AI’s massive power demands—and Trump’s done a lot to make it easier for them. Heidy Khlaaf, the head AI scientist at the AI Now Institute, tells us why that’s dangerous.

Microsoft, Google say their data centers create thousands of jobs. Their permit filings say otherwise

A lot of folks I've had casual conversations with about the tech seem to have no understanding of how so-called AI actually works under the hood, let alone having heard of an LLM.
But they seem genuinely interested in hearing more once I do a brief intro explanation.
But I'm also excited! I've learned so much about "AI" over the past year and I really want to share what I've learned with whoever is interested. I do get the feeling that people are genuinely interested in knowing more about this tech that is being pushed into every corner of their lives.
13.11.2025 18:23 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I've signed up to do a short talk/presentation on demystifying "AI" at the parent volunteer group at my kids school. Really nervous about it, I've never done this kind of public speaking or presenting before.

Just read a talk announcement about "AI" and K-12 education that looked like it maybe, maybe embedded a critical perspective but was still dressed up in the language of AI hype, presupposing both job market & education "reshaped by AI".

> “We thought AI would only approach human reasoning around 2050,” von der Leyen said at the annual EU budget conference in May. “Now we expect this to happen already next year.”
I can't stop laughing, this is so embarrassing! 😂🤣
In the personal space, I'm always late to the tech/gadget party and I think I like it that way. Slow and steady works well for me. I don't want the latest and greatest. I want what works well and will keep working well for the long haul. Recent consequences? None of my tech is "AI" ready. 🙏😌

(I'm thinking about how over on Mastodon the official app strips away a lot of the functionality and accessibility functions that are available in the web interface.)
"Just a tool," they say,
A boon for humanity.
Who counts as human?
Saw a cybertruck on the road for the first time today. This has got to be a bad omen.
