Yes, and equally important to always add when describing China's energy "leadership" that China is an aggressive all-of-the-above player: a leading producer, consumer, and financial backer of fossil fuels throughout the world. It's not embracing "green energy" per se, it's grabbing at ALL ENERGY.

The same is true in Alaska, as I just reported for @rollingstone.com : The vast majority of gas produced in Alaska feeds the fossil fuel industry, which uses it to produce more oil. The state also uses fossil fuels to export and import more fossil fuels.
www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...
Here's something fossil fuel-boosters don't want you to know: most fossil fuels are used to produce and use more fossil fuels. Why is energy consumption skyrocketing in Texas? Primarily due to "energy-intensive chemical manufacturing, oil and natural gas extraction, petroleum refining." c/o EIA.gov

Also hard-hit by the government shutdown: Funding for National Flood Insurance Program provides $1.3 trillion in coverage to 4.7 million policyholders, has officially lapsed. Policies set to expire may face dramatically higher premiums when renewals resume due to gaps in coverage during shutdown.

Nearly 90% of those who work at the Environmental Protection Agency - that's how many EPA workers are now furloughed due to the federal government shutdown that began at 12:01am today.
