I caught up with #Flames GM Craig Conroy to chat a little Zayne Parekh:

"We all would love him to come in and make the team. That's the No. 1 priority moving into the season. We don't want to rush him, but he's going to get an extended look.”

"No advice for him. He's a pro. He is miles ahead of where I was at 18, mentally... I think with a good first half he's going to have a really good chance at the Olympic team. Really impressed."

#Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson will captain Sweden at the #MensWorlds. Mikael Backlund, who captained Sweden to gold back in 2018, will serve as an alternate.

"I've always said you can't tell someone 'it's okay to lose,' now win. As long as these guys never believe in the though of 'it's okay to lose.' We want to win... that's got to be the message. We want to win because you can't send next mixed messages to them." #Flames

#Flames GM Craig Conroy on the value of the foundation laid versus the result of no playoffs and no top-five pick:

"We all want top-five picks, honestly. But to sacrifice a whole team for a top-five pick, that doesn't make any sense."

Dan Vladar will play in the #IIHFWorlds as a pending UFA, and drops an all-timer about being willing to risk injury without a contract in hand... with a heck of a reason. #Flames

Bonus Rasmus:

"For us as a player when you think about the 90 percent... the 10 percent we're talking about is the fans, 'oh Team Tank we've got to lose, we've got to lose.' No. No player in the NHL ever wants to lose a game. I can guarantee you that. Especially here. Never is losing an option."

"I have to sit down with my family, Conny and all those guys upstairs have to sit down and talk whats best for the team. I wish I could say 'hey, I'm signing July 1' or 'I'm getting traded July 1'.. I just don't know, right?" #Flames

"I love putting on that red jersey every time I come in here. That's never going to change. I want to be as honest as possible because I don't like the bullshit and the other stuff. I don't know what's going to happen, honestly."

Vladar (cont):

"If it's my last day or not, I don't know. It's always going to be a special place for me. My family loves it here. I love it here. I love the guys. I love the organization. I appreciate everything of what's happened to me here." #Flames

Dan Vladar, a pending UFA:

"I would love to be back. I said it from the get-go. I appreciate what the organization gave me four years ago, coming here as basically a nobody, a guy with a couple games in the NHL. The Flames gave me an opportunity to become a regular NHL player." #Flames

#Flames can still win the #NHLDraft Lottery, but will have no shot at no. 1.

• Parekh (19 years, 61 days) is the sixth-youngest defenseman in NHL history to score in his NHL debut. Scott Stevens (18 years, 188 days on Oct. 6, 1982) is the youngest.

• Parekh and Sam Morton became the first pair of #Flames teammates to each score in their NHL debut during the same contest.

• Parekh (19 years, 61 days) is the sixth-youngest player and second-youngest defenseman in franchise history at the time of his first NHL goal.

Lots of notes out of Game 82 for #Flames defenseman Zayne Parekh.

• Parekh is the fifth d-man in franchise history to score in his NHL debut after Patrick Sieloff (April 9, 2016), Mark Cundari (April 21, 2013), Brian Glynn (Oct. 8, 1987) and Neil Sheehy (April 1, 1984).

#Flames have recalled Sam Morton, a center, and Hunter Brzustewicz, a defenseman, from the AHL's Wranglers.

Nazem Kadri:

"We could've been out of this thing a month ago. It shows the pesky attitude. I felt like if we could've squeaked in, there might've been something there because we've had a lot of momentum and played some great hockey against some great hockey teams. Stuff like that sucks." #Flames

Weegar (cont): "Everybody came to work for one another this year. I think that's the most important thing. Credit to this team. We really did fight with all we had." #Flames

Weegar (cont): "It's such a grind all year long and it's such a hard league to win in. This group came together at the beginning of the year right away. I'm proud of this group, the perseverance and leadership from everybody, the belief, everybody bought in... it says a lot."

MacKenzie Weegar, no more than 25 minutes after the #Flames were eliminated from playoff contention:

"I'm sure everybody was saying it's sad and disappointing and what not, but for me it was... what a hell of a fight. With all the ups and downs this year you look back... "

#Flames announce the signing of Calgary product Carter King to a one-year, two-way contract that kicks in next season. King, 23, had career-highs in goals (21), assists (22) and points (43) with Denver in the NCAA this season.

Sergeev was selected in the seventh round (No. 205) of the 2021 #NHLDraft. His contract begins in 2025-26.
