How could a simple self-replicating system emerge at the origins of life? RNA polymerase ribozymes can replicate RNA, but existing ones are so large that their self-replication seems impossible. Could they be smaller?

Excited to share our latest work in @science.org on a new small polymerase.

I've seen some similar projects, but IMO this seems to better capture some of the fine-grained detail

Opinion | Let the Arms Race Begin

If Congress doesn’t act, the last nuclear arms control treaty between the U.S. and Russia will expire. It would pointlessly wipe out decades of diplomacy, and could spark another arms race that makes the world less safe. This piece is worth the read.

It is my great honor to announce that registration for the 7th ESCP Single Cell Proteomics Conference is now open: lnkd.in/e4iyiQjf
With around 250 participants, it is one of the largest SCP conferences worldwide. We are also proud to announce that there is no participation fee for our conference.

Remarkable. We wrote something similar that runs in a Jupyter notebook. I'm inclined to say yours is cooler.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

Community benchmarking and evaluation of human unannotated microprotein detection by mass spectrometry based proteomics - Nature Communications Several recent publications have attempted to detect novel unannotated microproteins using mass spectrometry proteomics. Here, the authors reassess these claimed microprotein detections, finding that ...

This paper has me thinking.

Can we move towards a blockchain for peptide identifications? A community accessible record for an identification, requiring no further processing.

Something like peptide atlas but with batch mining.

Thinking out loud.

I would highly recommend doing this at least once. The number of unique peptides from an antibody is bananas. Lots of artifacts though, it was a dud for de novo in our hands.

β€’ Red State Florida has 1.6 M undocumented immigrants

β€’ Blue State Minnesota has 130,000.

And yet only Minnesota is being occupied by masked thugs over "immigration."

It's *not* about immigration.

Another photo from the pump failure. Quite a doozy. On the plus side the service contract will cover this and with the new parts the instrument will be tip-top. This is a Lumos BTW, we use it for DDA HCD/EThcD on immunopeptidome samples.
