17.07.2025 07:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It was a test, Dave, to see if you can overcome adversity... and the main moth is waiting to appear tomorrow π

16.07.2025 05:51 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thanks Steve. Okay, I'll be happy with a fat Barred Straw or a Spinach... there's also a picture of Chevron underneath as well. Nothing like, so good call.
16.07.2025 05:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Could be, Steve. I've just never seen one sitting like that with its wings closed. They always sit with wings open. What about Spinach? The moth books should show underside views. It would be really useful π

Easington Moths...After a fresh westerly & clear night, perhaps 1 new macro which escaped, mostly expected species. Also the first mass arrival of Diamond-backs, 405 counted... So a nice couple of micros, Com Marbled Straw & Lsr Tawny Crescent, a LsrYU & a mystery carpet-type..Chevron? #teammoth
15.07.2025 18:17 β π 17 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I've taken lots like you and there's not one that I'd frame....I think that because you need a high shutter speed and ISO, they're always too noisy and contrasty...and if the light isn't good, then you're up against it.. π

09.07.2025 07:45 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Okay, thanks Sean, appreciatd. I presume it's more worn than it actually looks and the white body spots vary more than I understood.
08.07.2025 08:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0An interesting moth which looks okay for a Plain. I've lightened it up a tadge. They aren't common at all in some counties...

Easington moths...A pug that I think should be a White-spotted but it has no thoracic spot (maybe faint?) and no white spots on the sides of the abdomen...so am I looking at a Golden-rod doing a White-spotted impression? Thanks @mothiduk.bsky.social

06.07.2025 09:52 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes, us northerners do have moths... the Ice Age may have retreated a few thousand years after it left what is now the southern Britain, but moths did follow... and when you're in the middle of the new desert, we'll have a Mediterranean climate up here with plenty of moths π€£
06.07.2025 08:43 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Managed to get a copy, thanks π
06.07.2025 08:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Very true... English grammar rules dictate that all double adjectives are hyphenated with the second word beginning with a lower case... The British Birds article was a watershed moment at the time and an enjoyable read π
06.07.2025 08:16 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0There was a lengthy British Birds article, some years ago now, that explained the English names at a time when they were revised to be grammatically correct. I've remembered it ever since. Moth names don't always conform. Eg.. It should be Light-brown Apple Moth rather than Light Brown AM #teammoth
