yes i guess you dont need it for every conversation, just the sensitive ones

01.11.2025 15:13 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

if the ai gets a hold of your calls wont it know the code word?

01.11.2025 14:57 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

so students are not biased in what they say in terms of telling PIs what they want to hear? they are not wrong sometimes?

01.11.2025 11:03 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

i read it first as most adult don't know how to think either which i also agree with

01.11.2025 10:12 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

doesnt this describe basically all students and even most collaborators?

01.11.2025 10:12 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

yes maybe for kids it is different, they dont know not to let it think for them.

im waiting for the study about whether llm supported grants and papers are more likely to get funded / published - i saw one paper said researchers using llms pub more papers in higher impact journals

31.10.2025 17:04 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

how is reading llm output different from reading a textbook, except they can ask the llm for clarification or etc?

i agree about rewriting, but who is going to give students as much time and attention as a machine?

in my opinion llm better even than most phd readers because they skim and rush

31.10.2025 17:03 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

i dont see why people dont want to anthropomorphize - is there a fundamental difference in the way that brains and llms work? both are prediction machines and trying to guess what the reader wants to hear, trying to be useful etc

31.10.2025 16:45 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

i doubt anyone would seriously argue that we should let LLMs do the critical thinking for us - i think even for the most AI go getters it is more like let LLMs do the menial tasks to free people up for the better and more critical tasks

31.10.2025 16:28 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I agree people need to be warned against letting the llm think for them - but i do not think this should extend to not using llms in general. they do a lot of good work - finding information, and even rewriting it in ways that people are more likely to appreciate.

31.10.2025 16:28 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

it looks like a deflection - are not students taught to read and think and write and type before using an LLM?

31.10.2025 15:39 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

wasn't it two women editors at nature that recently asked people to focus on citing more diverse papers rather than the best ones?

31.10.2025 12:06 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

do you disagree women are more prone to caring about how people feel than the truth? look at the reaction to the paper

31.10.2025 11:55 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

are you aware the paper was written by a woman?

31.10.2025 11:53 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

this paper is from a set of authors who have a long history of preferring click bait to substance

31.10.2025 11:49 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

similar to e.g., using statistical software rather than doing it yourself, no doubt?

31.10.2025 11:48 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

doesnt eg statistical or accounting software replace human thought? but it allowed us to do more stuff that actually matters.

having an ai write some generic texts for me frees me up to think more critically.

students should be warned about improper use but to say dont use counterproductive imo

31.10.2025 10:37 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

why is the argument not the same for e.g., computers?

31.10.2025 10:01 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

i also know a lot of veterans, i think most dont want you telling them how to run their organization

31.10.2025 09:12 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

can you show me the quote where it says that? i didnt see it in my reading

31.10.2025 09:00 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

are you a part of their organization? why are you so interested in imposing or changing their standards?

31.10.2025 08:59 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

the best one

30.10.2025 21:19 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

there are some arguments about sewing random oats - so men go more for random sex (at least before birth control) - men's coalitions are more about competition women's more for caring for each other and children (I think is the argument).

30.10.2025 19:32 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

but women are vulnerable during those months, and thus are more selective with who they mate, or do you not agree with that? can we agree it is the men pushing mostly for sex with randoms?

so the idea that men need access to women is because women didnt put out that much at least until b control

:D so you mean that evolution doesn't happen through behavior, or you mean behavior is not related to psychology or thoughts in general, or you mean that minds or thoughts don't exist at all?

29.10.2025 21:55 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

do you not believe in evolution?

29.10.2025 20:55 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

you want me to evaluate the entire paragraph? the whole point of my comment is asking for specific criticisms - i just took the first claim it looks at least based in a possible reality to me.

overall it seems like a fairly standard evolutionary psychology argument
