im waiting for the study about whether llm supported grants and papers are more likely to get funded / published - i saw one paper said researchers using llms pub more papers in higher impact journals

how is reading llm output different from reading a textbook, except they can ask the llm for clarification or etc?

i agree about rewriting, but who is going to give students as much time and attention as a machine?

in my opinion llm better even than most phd readers because they skim and rush

i dont see why people dont want to anthropomorphize - is there a fundamental difference in the way that brains and llms work? both are prediction machines and trying to guess what the reader wants to hear, trying to be useful etc

i doubt anyone would seriously argue that we should let LLMs do the critical thinking for us - i think even for the most AI go getters it is more like let LLMs do the menial tasks to free people up for the better and more critical tasks

I agree people need to be warned against letting the llm think for them - but i do not think this should extend to not using llms in general. they do a lot of good work - finding information, and even rewriting it in ways that people are more likely to appreciate.

this paper is from a set of authors who have a long history of preferring click bait to substance

similar to e.g., using statistical software rather than doing it yourself, no doubt?

doesnt eg statistical or accounting software replace human thought? but it allowed us to do more stuff that actually matters.

having an ai write some generic texts for me frees me up to think more critically.

students should be warned about improper use but to say dont use counterproductive imo

why is the argument not the same for e.g., computers?

there are some arguments about sewing random oats - so men go more for random sex (at least before birth control) - men's coalitions are more about competition women's more for caring for each other and children (I think is the argument).

but women are vulnerable during those months, and thus are more selective with who they mate, or do you not agree with that? can we agree it is the men pushing mostly for sex with randoms?
