Hobby wood worker since 2023. I enjoy learning and trying out new techniques. Feel free to give feedback and suggestions.
π Nice one!

Inside of the lathe after adding a replacement screw.
The screw which fixes the indexing gear of my lathe became loose over time and disappeared somehow. I ordered a new screw. It was an interesting opportunity to learn about the inner parts of my lathe π

I was in a garden center today ... it turned out that the shape of the flowerpots can be quite intriguing for my inner woodturner π

Painting acrylic paint on a round wooden piece before switching on the lathe. This silver coat was one of many coats I tried.
After applying too much silver paint, I got desperate and just pushed the still wet paint around.
Then, I sprayed some water while the piece was spinning.
This led to a very fine texture, which finally pleased me enough to call it a day π
Some colorful experiments on the lathe using acrylic paint π¨

02.10.2025 10:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Removing the excess of the paste. I tried to use some walnut oil, too, hoping to remove the excess easier. I am not sure if that was necessary.

Side view. I sanded the rim such that the oak colors are visible there as well.
This piece took me quite a while to make. It is made from oak, which I brushed, dyed and where I applied golden paste to highlight the grain.

Interesting! I will keep your recipe in mind, and will try it one day. Thank you for sharing!

03.09.2025 22:46 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I made the bowl from some old oak board lying around.
The grooves give an interesting feeling when touching them. But I can see that they might be undesirable in some scenarios. I have some plans to char some maple, too π
Charring the bowl using a blowtorch.
Brushing the surface. This created an interesting texture with deep rills.
Surface after applying hard wax oil. The shine is pretty nice, especially in bright sunlight.
The edge with the end grain got an interesting rough structure.
I charred the surface of this bowl made from oak. Did I make it better or worse? π

Very interesting, thank you!
03.09.2025 05:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That's a lot of lacquer layers π². How many do you apply in total?
Very nice mushroom by the way π€©
Look promising π

The third (and last) bowl I made recently from some alder wood. I am starting to wonder what I should do with all these bowls π

Lathe with the bowl still attached. Lots of beautiful wooden shavings were produced during the course π
Top view of the bowl. The rim was first burned with a blowtorch. Later, small grooves were cut with the skew.

Here is another bowl I made last week during a workshop: Alder wood with a burned rim, this time with a bit more unusual design.
