I know pedestrian crossing laws vary state by state and even town by town, but here, peds gotta make sure the road is clear before entering a crosswalk to cross the street, and any “new” cars then have to stop for peds who are in the crosswalk. It’s a great system if everyone does it right.

Agree. Tho I do wish pedestrians would stop jumping out in front of moving vehicles without even so much as looking first. Had an old lady tell me once as I waited at a crosswalk for the road to clear “oh you don’t have to stop, they (cars) have to stop” as she just, walked out into traffic 😬
