My petty gripe: I graciously let your car in, now where’s my bloody thank you wave? I’m a considerate driver. I don’t hog the right lane. I never tailgate. And I let people in ahead of me. But woe betide you if I don’t get acknowledgement

Is it really so hard to give a little wave after I let you in? I'll be chatting to @Brigitte Duclos on ABC Melbourne at 12:30pm today about my petty road gripes in @australia.theguardian.com. Call on 1300 222 774 & share your road rage!

In a difficult year being unemployed, I learned what success really means | Sunil Badami For most of that year, I didn’t tell anyone. I didn’t want to burden them with my troubles. And, to be honest, I felt ashamed From finance to academia, on radio and TV and even in a Kings Cross sex shop, I’ve had a diverse range of jobs, most largely freelance, casual or contract. I loved doing new things, learning new skills and meeting new people. I was so busy for so long, with so many contracts overlapping each other, that I often didn’t have much time for anything else. By August 2023, I was burnt out. Sign up for a weekly email featuring our best reads Continue reading...

I came out as unemployed today. Luckily I didn’t have to “survive” on #Jobseeker or bear the pointless cruelties of “mutual obligation” but it was still hard. We talk about mental illness. So why is it still so hard to talk about being unemployed? www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Kiss my Hass: Why Shepards are the superior avocado I’m not usually one for patriotism, but preferring Shepards over Hass is basically a civic duty.

I fully endorse this. I gorge on Shepards March to May. Hasses are terrible. Always rot fast, mushy, bitter. Sheps are sweet, creamy, last forever. Love them. I’ll die on this green hill. I shall never want.

‘Everybody seemed thrilled they’d made it inside’: sizzling images from Studio 54 – in pictures The disco mecca was arguably the most famous nightclub of all time – and certainly the most decadent. Between 1978 and 1980, Tod Papageorge captured its glamorous dancers and drinkers

Funny and sad to think any of these ragers still alive are in their 70s and 80s. And they look like they’re having the kind of times you had when you didn’t have to worry about “virality” #goodtimes #studio54 #yolo

COVID-19 is a leading cause of death in children and young people in A new study led by researchers at the University of Oxford’s Department of Computer Science has found that, between 2021 and 2022, COVID-19 was a leading cause of death in children and young people

It still astonishes me that more people in politics and our media pretend to be concerned about kids having missed school than kids having been killed or sickened by Covid.

Australia is leading the way by banning access to the covid vaccine for kids under 18.

Only exception is if they have risk factors/severely immunocompromised - and in that case, good luck finding it because almost everywhere stopped stocking kids’ doses years ago due to lack of eligibility.

Matt Goss on love, loss and his brother Luke: ‘I don’t want to lie any more. We’re completely estranged’ The Bros frontman is back touring the UK after an 11-year Vegas residency. He discusses mega-fame, political correctness, loneliness and the joy of long-term success

I never cared for Bros when they were famous but this interview is wild. The last three quotes alone worth the price of admission. Like Spinal Tap swallowed too much Crème Brûlée. Surely subs must have considered the headline “When he was, he was once famous.” 🎶 www.theguardian.com/music/2024/d...

The coffee Doritos were not as bad as they sound. And they actually tasted like coffee with one sugar! Not sure if they woke me up, though, and I can’t work out what they’d go with other than chocolate flavoured Doritos.

Her articles for the Women's Weekly were witty and exciting – especially the one where she landed in Paris and had to find woollen underwear while wearing a sari. Plus her work with Ruby Rich, Jean Garling & other giants of Australian dance, especially Madame Gertrude Bodenweiser.

An amazing life – sharing a cottage in Philip Street with Rosaleen Norton, the Witch of Kings Cross; having a fling with Chico Marx; dancing for bed and board in the Taj Hotel in Bombay; making 400 clay figurines for an animated film and more.
