Had that on a tree at our old house (Bells Corner), it was a type of fungal infection, which persisted less (for us, at least) if we raked up and disposed of the leaves in the fall as soon as possible.

Yeah, totally… I used mine so little that the rotors would start to rust and I’d have to brake hard every once in a while to clean them off

I personally like this vegetarian chili recipe, for example. Or, another example is I make a great Saag Paneer. It doesn’t feel like a sacrifice because it’s so good.

Then it enters our regular rotation and we eat it for leftovers and end up eating vegetarian more than we realize.

06.11.2025 15:28 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah, it’s an easier sell, I think, to start with 1 vegetarian meal in your rotation. Something a person enjoys the taste of, not vegetarian for the sake of doing vegetarian.

A detail in the article is wrongβ€”that EVs don’t produce any particulate matter.

They definitely should be adopted over gas cars, since they produce far less.

They continue to produce particulate matter through tire wear, which has a wide range in sizes but can be down to the scales mentioned.

So I think maybe we could get more traction if frame it like:
β€œdon’t feel bad about the mistakes of the past, don’t feel guilty for having enjoyed it at one point, don’t feel bad for not changing sooner, what’s important is now we move on and leave those happy memories as memories.”

06.11.2025 14:34 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I also think people are resistant to thinking of a thing that they used to enjoy as bad, even if they agree with the reasoning, because then they have all these fond memories involving that (now) bad thing, which turns those happy memories into regrets.

06.11.2025 14:34 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I think that discomfort/offence comes from people feeling like they’re being told they’re a bad person for having done something they enjoy.

Not that this is your approach. Oftentimes people read between the lines and jump to that conclusion on their own, which is not helping.

If it’s a topic I don’t know much about, I usually don’t care enough to make sure I got it right so I assume it could be wrong.

The exception is if I’m looking something up for someone else, then I care if I get it right so then I’ll look into the source.

06.11.2025 11:56 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Depends on how much I already know on the topic. If I know a lot, I use whether or not what I read conflicts with my existing knowledge as a guide to whether or not I double-check the source.

You think it has something to do with how it takes less effort to throw away a disposable thing than it takes to wash and reuse?

That, and people don’t have enough exposure to landfills to get a better understanding of what they’re contributing to?

Yet a proposition, being abstract, can be stated on scales larger than their maximum reach leading to indeterminate truthiness with infinite regress.

Thus to have any value, any Ps truth scope must be limited to that which can be plausibly determined rather than being universal.

04.11.2025 21:34 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

But how can there be an if and only if concept when no single frame has access to universal knowledge? At most, all that a P can apply to is the scope of the Ps applicable light cone, since it cannot impact that which lies outside of it.

04.11.2025 21:34 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

This proposition is relative to the planet’s gravity and quantity of whatever substance makes up that planet’s β€œsea”.

Probably many, many more assumptions I overlooked that could be parameterized.

So the proposition is true or false depending on unstated assumptions.

04.11.2025 20:17 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Are not propositions any arbitrary statement that can be evaluated true/false?

So, couldn’t a proposition be made about a measurable phenomenon that’s dependent on a particular reference frame thereby making that proposition’s truthiness relative?

04.11.2025 17:16 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

If truth can be parameterized, and there’s no clear way to determine the exact parameters (or lack thereof) that determine a sort of absolute truth, that must imply that the absolute truth is unknowable or at least unprovable to be absolute truth.

How is that any different than truth relativism?

04.11.2025 14:19 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Yet due to time dilation the truth of their speed with respect to the speed of light is both correct and incorrect depending on the relative frame of reference.

This counter example is a relative truth independent of any individual’s beliefs.

04.11.2025 11:41 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Take an example from relativity. All observers, absent of acceleration, believe the difference between their constant velocity and the speed of light is C.

Each observer could be moving at different speeds relative to each other.

04.11.2025 11:41 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

β€œit points beyond itself to a truth that is not relative”
I don’t see how this last part follows.

Does it not just point to a truth external to the subjective belief of the person? That alone doesn’t eliminate the possibility of there being multiple truths.

Carney didn’t create or run that ad, that was done by the Ontario provincial premier Doug Ford.

That’d be equivalent to a governor in the states running an ad in a different country and then the president apologizing on behalf of that governor.

What would a number system with a negative base behave like?

Say base-(-10)

Would it flip the negativity multiplication rules?

(Ex. Like signed numbers multiplied together always make a negative, and differently signed numbers always make a positive)?

then he finally got the right thumb to press backspace but accidentally hit the submit button.

That’s my guess.

South Carolina is having a governor’s race, right now, no? He probably wants to weigh in.

β€œApostate” is more effective, though, because they’ll not even try to handle it, so much as only come back to see if there’s a new owner.

I grew up in that religion and this would happen from time to time.

While the house got marked down, it wasn’t to *never* come back, but it was for the leaders of the church to handle that one.

Same thing happens if the person says they’re an β€œApostate”.
