the best game movie adaptations (usually) get away with it because they stick closer to the *feeling* of the game they're based on than the mechanics

sometimes there's overlap (the mario movie) but usually the ones that flop could be any other movie with a coat of paint that looks like some game IP

the aforementioned performance improvements I've been talking about have been implemented. checks vs the rest of the collision world are up to 10x faster, and a bunch of individual shape checks have also been improved noticeably

although at least in my test world it appears to be more accurate, culling out more stuff from the visibility region, so if you have a lot of large vertex buffers or have to do multiple passes over your scene i guess it can still turn out to be better

frustum culling on GameMaker instance worlds doesn't scale as well as quad/octrees, due to the need to loop over the ds_list of gamemaker instances and convert them into an array of collision objects

A month or so ago someone told me they found a crash in 3D Collisions but I can't remember where the conversation happened and I don't remember the specifics, except for it having to do with raycasts. If that person happens to be here, could you tell me what the specifics were?

Half of the steamworks backend is really nice, and half of it feels like it hasn't been updated since about 2005... this is one of those things that feels like it hasn't been updated since about 2005.
