Woah. This is next level authoritarianism: put your political opponents in prison. #Americans: rise up some more. You have done brilliantly with #NoKings but this is bad. Really really bad.

Yes indeed. I think it was Peter Lewis that put me there but I added my DPhil supervisors. I notice that Peter (who is at Ontario Technical University) has not added any of his students.

I still think your initial statement about this article is true. AGI as currently understood has such huge requirements we are nowhere near them

The great thing with Signal is that not only is it more secure and operated by better people, but it's also flat out the better product in terms of usability and aesthetics. Also no weird AI bots, solid desktop version, and great videoconferencing.

@pmc.bsky.social since I haven't identified the original thread now you have to tell me where and when. ๐Ÿ˜… 30 years ago is too long. (The amount of snow falling in the last few days has also been too much.)

๐ŸŽค do you hear the party sing?
Singing the song of angry men
It is the music of a party
Who will not be elected again

Looking forward to Kemi Badenoch's further forays into popular culture, in which she prosecutes Oliver Twist for begging, Kevin McCallister for assault, and Santa for failure to take an obviously sick reindeer to the vet

The geographically larger sparsely populated Austrian Lander showed a tendency towards the FPร– in the September general election (see any similarity with the US there?)

Oh, and because STV is used in fact no candidates were directly elected in my region.

38 regions across the country. Approximately the same electorate size for each potential directly elected candidate. So my region is a few districts in central Vienna that could elect 3 candidates. Single transferrable vote with d'Hont weighting to state and federal level. 183 members overall.

I notice that muting the 20 book challenge using #BookChallenge is not working since almost nobody is posting using that tag. Hence I may have to detach the feed.

This is not the ideal reminder when a storm is happening on the west coast of Great Britain that will probably continue until after nightfall. But thanks for developing the model.

a graph showing sunset times for different locations in NE US/southern Canada. The curves look approximately quadratic, with Dover NH and Hamilton ON slightly later than Newton/Somerville MA. Earliest sunset is Dec 06. From Dec 2 to Dec 10 the difference in sunset time is only about 0.5 minutes

Someone on Mastodon reminded me that it's "analemma day" (~ earliest sunset of the year in the Northern Hemisphere)

I hope you will be pleased to know that I wrote in a preference vote for eine ร„rztin in my Austrian region (constituency/electoral district). I like to elect people with an intellectually demanding background.

The Bundsprรคsident has asked the current VPร– chancellor to work with the SPร– to from a coalition. They will probably need a third party, I expect the NEOS

No, they have been ostracised by all the other parties after their leader used phrases last used by the unmentionable Austrian (AH). Their success has been much overreported: they have the largest number of seats in the National Assembly of any party, but not by much.
