The release of GPT5 is giving off strong Apple Vision Pro vibes.

There was like a full year where critics of VR/AR/XR headsets were cautioned β€œjust wait for Apple to make its move. Whatever they release will be a step-change. The present is just prologue.”

This is serious, rigorous analysis and it should change the way the media has been covering these protests. These were, in the aggregate, *massive.*

This is quite a kicker in Thomas Edsall’s latest op-ed.

I lucked into a nice bit of nature over the weekend, here in the upper Sacramento Valley.

I recognize and appreciate that. Thank you.

But, I struggle with the "odes to bipartisanship" I hear from the Dems, when the other side has done 0 to earn collaboration.

Sensing accommodation with the GOP, even a little, is maddening.

IMHO, Dems need to break the common perception.

You know why these guys are so willing to flagrantly and openly break the law? Because they’ve been doing it for years, testing the waters, seeing what they could get away withβ€”and they got away with all of it. This is the consequence of no consequences and an injustice system.

Idgaf I’m still fighting for guaranteed healthcare.

Aspiration is the answer. Not just β€œwe’re not the bad guys.”

We need something more meaningful than that. I want a future worth fighting for. They have no vision. We do. Lean into our strengths and knock them out. πŸ‘ŠπŸ½

Structural. Citizens United was a lever to pry up the very roots of informed self-governance. Dark money has purchased everything from our most elemental journalistic enterprises and political parties to state and national legislatures and our highest courts. Follow the fucking money. Pay attention.

Andrews makes that catch 99% of the time. I feel bad for him. I wanted the winner to go to KC and beat the Chiefs. Raven's are an excellent team; they'll be back.

I was deeply disappointed by the lack of nature/science/climate/enviro on many major end-of-year book listsβ€”so I decided to make my own!

Wow. Love how he imagines 0 effort for the dominant skin tone except to "give resilience." Instead, RFK should go to the National Museum of African-American History and Culture. Spend a day going from the bottom floors up to the top. Infinite resilience on display there.

TL;DR version: we're not going to have an administrative state anymore.

No consumer protections. No environmental protections. No workplace protections. No financial reporting protections.

It's going to be great for plutocrats, right up until the next economic collapse.

I'm not a Goodreads user, but on several recommendations from Bluesky accounts, I signed up for StoryGraph.

Also, big fan of Libby, which is a library book-borrowing app.

I'm reading these replies for recommendations as well. I've been years away from the genre.

I enjoyed the Dangerous Visions short story anthologies long ago. The final one, The Last Dangerous Visions, is out.

Good stories. A long essay about editor Harlan Ellison is illuminating & poignant.
