Because he knew exactly what she meant by saying “Arab.” Instead of correcting her and saying “he isn’t Arab,” he gave a response to what she truly meant, putting her in her place.

Arab here, raised Muslim (atheist now). McCain’s response was perfect. He knew exactly what she meant.
