There is no reason to pirate books. Why would I punish an author like that? FFS people.

Book Cover for Broken Blade by Kelly McCullough

Aral's been broken by the death of his goddess, but he's still loyal to his shade dragon partner, Triss. Lots of skulking around, big fights and close calls. Surprisingly introspective in places.

No idea on the books but I have heard that legos or other building blocks can be helpful for fractions - I don't have kids so I have not tried this myself.

#Bookvember Unreliable Narrator

*spoilers*

Eugenides from Megan Whalen Turner's Queen's Thief series.

He's only the narrator for the first book - but in the following ones, he's still doing the same things, and we watch others being taken in. It's fabulous to see it from the outside.

As long as tense doesn't switch in the book, it doesn't matter for me

his seems very well researched.

While there is a grimness to this, which seems inevitable due to the history, it was a compelling read. The ending was a surprise but I thought it matched the story.

There's some very creepy magic underpinning this alt history. Charlotte and Antoine (Marie Antoinette) change in very different ways over the years. I found myself referencing wikipedia to see how closely things matched -

At a doggy parade three young humans are walking a loaf shaped bulldog down a red carpet.
But wait!
Dog Loaf isn't stopping! (oh no!)
Dog Loaf is off the carpet and headed for the horizon. (Ahh)
Places to go and things to see!
Can they manage to turn him around?!
(They can... Eventually.) (3)

I really enjoy the dual journeys of Elliot and Luke in Sarah Reese Brennan's In Other Lands - especially with the Luke POV short story in Monstrous Affections. I like that it takes place over years, allowing for a lot of growth.

A photo of a crocheted hyperbolic plane - a surface with an exponentially increasing surface area. It is rainbow coloured and it loops and swirls about - in the center of it, poking about from amid the swirls, is the head of a black and white kitten. His paw is poking out from the bottom. It looks like he is wearing an extremely elaborate costume, the sort of thing you’d see on the red carpet at the Met Gala.

Made a hyperbolic plane for the cats to play with, Bandit has decided to wear it.

Worn #onthisday in 1984 by Glenda Jackson in the title role of Jean Racine's play "Phaedra" when it premiered at the Old Vic in London. Director Philip Prowse designed the costumes; one critic complained that the actresses looked "as if they were trapped in ornate gas balloons." #OTD πŸ“· V&A Museum

Velocity, Tai and Rida are a solid trio, drawn into the complexities surrounding BrontΓ« and Sabra

I did get a little lost about some parts of the timeline, and with some of the double-named characters.

I'll get the next one

Book Cover for Fault Lines by Kelly Jennings

Two people stand closely, facing the viewer. The older one has serious, wary, body language, with one hand out as if to bar the child beside her from moving forward. She is of ambiguous race, has short cropped hair and a semi-military dress.

The child beside her reaches to her shoulder, with short straight hair in a bright orange. She has rounded and more childlike features. She's looking up at the first person with a mix of stoicism and fear.

Behind them is a bright orange glow, fading into a futuristic city in the background.

This is a well thought out book, with the flashbacks slowly revealing more information. It's got a nice mix of dystopia, galactic politics, complex intrigue and factions. The evolving relationships are well done.

#Bookvember Nope Genre:

I won't read military fic, unless it's science fiction.
I don't read much historical, unless it's spec fic

In both, I like that buffer of unreality.

I don't read true crime either, I'd prefer to deal with imagined horrors than true ones.
