And yes, the sheer audacity of citing a study from fucking 2014 as "proof" that administrators are using AI tools daily, as if the state of things eleven years ago is in any way comparable, is amazing.

*That closed-mindedness, incidentally, stems directly from the actions of the AI businesses and the deliberate, manipulative conflation of legit machine learning with awful LLMs used poorly. More often than not, it's not closed-mindedness, just legit questions AI cheerleaders don't want to confront.

Higher Education’s AI Panic: Hypocrisy, History, and the Path Forward
Jesse Martin

Higher education is in crisis mode again. The question echoing around administrative boardrooms and faculty meetings is: “How can we stop students from using AI?” If it weren’t so consequential, it would be laughable. Let’s be honest—does anyone truly believe that the very same educators and administrators aren’t already using AI tools every single day in their own work, often without thinking twice (Brynjolfsson & McAfee, 2014)?

I swear, the amount of pollyanna bs like this towards AI is ridiculous. Yes, there's some degree of closed-mindedness in the AI-skeptical community*, but this just tilts to the complete opposite extreme, with no willingness to question it at all, and an assumption of bad faith from skeptics. (1/2)
