A great breakdown of how so many of these grand proclamations on AI are either outright wrong, or just written in a way to stoke fear or drive investment by making the tech seem far more (reli)able than it really is. Also I love the "analyslop" term for stuff like this.

Oh man I remember Monday Night Combat. I liked the whole televised sport conceit for the setting since it gave that goofy Team Fortress 2 humor at times which was fun.

So I’m now a Partner Support Analyst. I’m going to be handling configuration and API issues with our biggest parter that go into our benefits system. Seems simple enough but will have to see what the workload is like. Hoping I can at least grown because this is the third lateral move in 3 years.

Just watched a 2 hour breakdown of Ridley Scott's Napoleon from 2023 and I gotta say, much better viewing than that movie. I had forgotten just how drawn out and weird it was. Really seemed like Scott flat out didn't like Napoleon because he came off like a whiny baby in that movie.

Kiddo has been super friendly and clingy lately. Got the picture right when she blinked and got how she was feeling captured perfectly. She even climbed on my lap later. Poor Sheebah is exhausted from playing with her all the time.

Looks like we won’t get the ESPN streaming access via our tv provider until Fall at this point. Was hoping to have it up by Mania but I guess I’ll need to use varied plans now. Wouldn’t be surprised if they push it back again as they seem desperate to get dedicated subs to that service lately.

Welp looks like my mother needs knee replacement surgery. Makes sense since she’s been needing injections for a while due to the pain. Worried since at her age being put under is a lot in the heart but she definitely needs it. Going to fly down before she goes under though.

Was going to go to the gym but got a call from my dad. Turns out they were struggling getting a new PC setup. Had to guide my mom into getting back into gmail and other accounts. Already told me they have a list waiting for me when I visit for her birthday in May but she is almost 80 so fair enough.

Deleted a 10 post long thing from last night since I figure I'll just get scolded for not being positive. I'm not depressed but certainly not happy. I enjoy next to nothing and don't feel excited for things I should. Not sure if I should shift careers or just stay busy so I don't have time to think.

While yes the shitty state of the country is part of it there is more going on. I feel like my lack of having some big dream or ambition is a problem. I am ambitious but I don’t have a dream job or thing to do. Success is what was drilled into my head as the most important metric.

Finally got an update from work. I should be moving into this new position starting in March. Going back into Ops to do partner support for our biggest partner since I’ve worked with their systems for over a decade. Should get more details next week but at least my job is safe for now.

No FFVII Part 3 in the State of Play which was a bummer, but lots of cool stuff in there regardless. Very excited for RE9 later this month.

Tl;dr: The vast majority of adults will never have to interact with our age assurance systems and their experience won't change, because we know Discord and how people use it, so we're designing to respect privacy and deliver a safer experience while minimizing friction for adults. Hey folks – I’ve been on Discord since very early 2016 and actually joined the company in 2017. Safety is one of my areas, so today’s announcement on our blog is something I’ve been pretty involved with. I’ve always cared about Discord's approach to privacy (E2EE for A/V was another of my projects here), so I figured I’d add some more context to today's news. I can say confidently that the vast majority of people will never see age verification. I say this because we launched age assurance in the UK and Australia in 2025, and we have some pretty good data on this now. The idea here is that we can pre-identify most adults based on what we already know (not including your messages!), and that looks to get us pretty far here. No face scans, no IDs, for the vast majority of adults.

And if you are one of the smaller subset of folks that we can't definitively pre-identify, then still, you only have to do it if you're accessing age-restricted servers or channels, or changing certain settings. That's really not most users. (Altho... might be more Redditors, tbh.) Last, I know that there is concern about privacy and data leaks. That's a real concern. The selfie system is built purely client-side, it never leaves your device, and we did that intentionally. That'll work for a bunch of users who aren't pre-identified as adults. But if you do end up in the ID bucket, then yeah, you're right that has some risk. We're doing what we can to minimize this by working with our range of partners (who are different partners than the data leak you read about), and if it's any help, we learned a lot internally from the last issue. But I get if that doesn't necessarily inspire more confidence. Anyway, we’ll be sharing more next month as we get closer to the global roll out about the system, including the technology behind it in March. I honestly wouldn't be happy if we didn't build something good and I am excited about what we’re launching, but please let us know what you think when we share more details. And I really appreciate everybody's feedback here today. We’re definitely reading it!

Been enjoying Octopath Traveler 0 lately. I didn't feel the connection for the first three stories very much. Once it got to the big story about King Pardis, things got WAY more interesting. Also, compared to the past two, this entry is noticeably darker and dramatic but in a good way.
