No, they’ve actively been seeking replacements since the Everton defeat. The latest coming out of the club that’s in today’s media merely confirms they haven’t found what they were looking for. And going down the caretaker route makes no sense.

I agree, when he does eventually leave that shouldn’t be forgotten.

It was always linked to a successor. The club don’t want to go down a caretaker route. So if there is no credible alternative in place quickly then they don’t want to remove O’Neil and leave a void.

It’s entirely possible, Lee. Despite sounding out potential successors, the club is a long way from securing an alternative. A caretaker-role is not favoured, although may be required. It’s an uncomfortable situation and Gary O’Neil is handling it as well as can be expected.

That is a consideration.

It is also inconceivable that there will not be some team strengthening in defence next month. Fosun have secured seven seasons of PL football (and counting) so do not want to throw it all away, despite the apparent malaise around the club right now #wwfc
