Just found what I can only presume is my grandfather Abraham’s enamelled office name plate, at the bottom of my grandma’s sewing table. Whether it came from pre-war Germany or from London I don’t know, but what a delightful thing to have!

Almost wish I’d watched the match, but then I’d have missed (usually hysterically over-excited ) footie commentators quietly beginning to channel the laconic bonhomie of cricket commentary… delightful!

Tuned in to the Grimsby - Man U penalty shootout on BBC Radio 5. Utterly delightful to hear the commentators’ genteel astonishment and increasing amusement as goal after goal after goal went in.

ONLY the waistcoat?!

I’m hoping that, when you set it, it looks like a cat and, when you wake up, all that’s left is a huge smile in a tree vibrating gently on the bedroom wall. After which there will be tea, and dormice, and conversation about treacle mines…

I want a smile alarm, just to see how it works…

Having read poems by others to them at previous events, and seen the poets squirming cheerfully away at the back of the hall, I fully expect my face to be a perfect mix of sclerotic discomfiture and secret pleasure...
