Very late to the party, but RIPLEY was amazing. Just finished it. Masterclass in composition and cinematography (and acting and directing). Every frame could be something you print out and hang on your wall. Expertly shot in black and white.

Caught PETER HUJAR’S DAY last night and loved it. I romanticize mid 70s NYC, ostensibly “ugly,” but some amazing art being produced despite that. Hujar being a working photographer and an unrecognized genius is fun to experience as he recounts his day.

The yeller’s birthday is coming up shortly so I did a deep dive on YouTube on what Godzilla is the best one to get and HOO BOY was not expecting the depth of license holders and veracity of debate on this subject.

Reading a book titled Fred Herzog: Modern Color, about legendary street photographer Fred Herzog and his embrace of Kodachrome well before anyone in the art photography scene embraced anything other than black and white exclusively.

Attempting to read while getting yelled about how I should buy Godzilla toys and with what frequency they should arrive (every day, apparently).

Immediately after sharing this I dove back into the news. It’s hard to square art with these times, but it’s probably the most important time to share art. All I did last week though was stay up until 3am anxiously awaiting WWIII. More 1984 double speak today with another innocent person dead.

I did! I read the book.

In January of 1996, I was telling/begging/proselytizing the few people on campus about a little movie I saw on break called HEAT. It’s weird now to remember trying to convince people that one of the greatest action movies ever made was something we could just go see RIGHT NOW.
