Martha Thomases did PR for DC for a long while. And offered to get me in to see the Ramones' sound check across the street at the David Letterman Show.

I, stupidly not knowing who the Ramones were at the time, passed.

She is amazing.

You’ve been kidnapped. The characters from the last TV show you watched are trying to rescue you. Who’s coming to save you?

Captain Hastings and Hercule Poirot!

I am so much more entertained these days by hearing people tell me about superhero stories than actually reading them. Wacky!

Well. I had no idea they all dated. (Not much of a Marvel Girl.) But yeah, I'm all for "superhero women drink together" stories.

Most of those I can think of immediately that are set in a past era are given modern spins. Or perhaps those are just the ones that most interest me.

I should elaborate: I don't think anyone can or should do a truly faithful adaptation. Take, for example, the bigotry inherent in The Sign of Four. That problem exists to greater or lesser degree in most Holmes stories.

And that the characters (cause no Holmes without Watson for me) can still be relevant and entertaining today is great!

There's faithful, and there's entertaining. Straight translations of original, 1890-whatever stories are unlikely to catch modern audiences. Keeping the core of what makes them entertaining is more important, imo.
