Too often, the conversation about birth control gets stuck between

Dismissing the physiological costs of contraception.
Settling for the side effects and status quo.

Or vilifying it entirely.
None of the above will lead us to better choices.

A WHO trial for a male birth control injection (96% effective) was cancelled due to side effects like weight gain, acne, and mood changes. The same side effects women and ppl with uteruses endure for contraception every day. Why is it acceptable for women to bear this burden—but not men?

From 2017-20, there were fewer than 25 industry-funded contraceptive clinical trials. Compare that to 3,000+ cancer drug trials in 2019 alone.
And who funds most contraceptive research? Drug manufacturers, who mainly focus on safety (important!) but often overlook quality-of-life impacts.
