CU signs $2M OpenAI deal for ChatGPT access Students and faculty will gain access to ChatGPT Edu starting in March under a three-year deal.

My employer, Univ. Colorado will pay OpenAI $2M/year under the banner of β€œequity”. That’s 54 full scholarships / year. Plus, our IT will be able to read our chatGPT logs, and our chats can be requested under public records law. No thanks. Surveillance is not equity

In terms of what cures are being lost:

- Epstein-Barr virus is perhaps the major trigger for multiple sclerosis
- herpes simplex virus causes cold sores, genital herpes, infections in babies, deadly meningitis
- shingles virus causes an intensely painful disease

Someone testified to Congress that NAEP data dropped after states introduced one to one tech. Has that been published somewhere?

Ive already heard from Knox co sources that he has already made a deal with Blackburn. He won’t run for gov and she appoints him. Also would make his wife happy, as she doesn’t want to move Nashville.

The Effect of Fraternity Moratoriums on Alcohol Offenses and Sexual Assaults I exploit variation in timing from 44 temporary university-wide halts on all fraternity activity with alcohol (moratoriums) across 37 universities over 2014–2019. I construct a novel data set, merging...

"I find robust evidence that moratoriums [on fraternities] decrease alcohol offenses by 26 percent. Additionally, I find suggestive evidence that moratoriums decrease reports of sexual assault on the weekends by 29 percent." [FYI I was in a fraternity] jhr.uwpress.org/content/61/1...

How ICE Already Knows Who Minneapolis Protesters Are

A Minnesota woman observing ICE agents in her car was cornered on one-way streets. An agent approached, called her by nameβ€”citing facial recognition. Days later, her Global Entry and TSA privileges were revoked, with no explanation.

I've been sent video from the end of the ICE raid at the Zipps on 32nd and Shea.

It shows protesters -- on the sidewalk, impeding no one -- getting drive-by maced by an ICE agent from a truck as it rolls away down the road.

Hard to see how such tactics are justifiable.

Update from Devon Lum

OMG. "DHS said the episode began after a man approached Border Patrol agents with a handgun and they tried to disarm him. But footage from the scene shows the man was holding a phone in his hand, not a gun, when federal agents took him to the ground and shot him." www.nytimes.com/live/2026/01...

I am not being snarky. I need my colleagues who wrote on covid school lockdowns to engage with this. To be as loud as they have been about prior "learning loss." Hell, you can cite Tom & Mark's AERJ paper so you feel better that there's some econ somewhere in your argument.

Here is a great example of a Texas private school's fees - many of which families will have to pay out of pocket before any state ESA money will kick in.

My daughter's school in Richfield, MN (adjacent to Minneapolis) is closing tomorrow due of out-of-control federal agents. Fourth graders spent the week building walls of snow at recess to protect their classmates from ICE. This isn't about immigration enforcement, it's about terror.

According to my sources, the FBI was initially open to a concurrent investigation with the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (the state agency that would do this investigation).

Trumpy U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen heard about this and intervened, barring the FBI from cooperating with local police.

This isnt about higher ed scholars, but all scholars. People tell me writing a grant is super easy and I should be able to put one together quickly. I teach 4 classes a semester when they teach 1.

I agree with this. As a first gen student who went to regional uni and teach at a regional uni, I often think there’s a big disconnect with those who went elite public/private. One example was an ivy prof on here making a comment that most social sciences professors make 100k.
