Prepping for a music video release for #thedolltones. This song is called Even in the Morning and it’s kinda just about being all grumpy ass fool all of the time. When I wrote it, I was a bit shocked that those lyrics just came out of me. But sometimes, that’s just how it be. #songwriting #lyrics

I lived in San Jose, CA for 16 years and during that time I met a lot of great musicians. Watching now as bands like #scowl, #spy #superworld, and #starninetynine absolutely blow it out of the water. They’re amazing folks I played many shows with. I’m proud of what that scene has made. #sanjose

Life is too short to stop dreaming.

Today I’m thinking of Steven Milner, my history professor from college. He would know everyone’s name in class and could conjure the exact question he knew each person would be most (or least) prepared to answer. He was my favorite, and I am happy to say was also a low-key friend of mine on campus.

Today I’m thinking of Bobby Seale who once came to my college to give a lecture. He was incredibly funny and inspiring. A good humored man who fought to keep Oakland a safe place for people of color. I am honored to have gotten that chance to meet him. #blackhistorymonth #bobbyseale

Today is the first day of black history month, where I remember the U.S. was built on the backs of enslaved black folk. Our system is still abusive to their children, and all progress now feels a bit lost. All because some white folk are losing their minds over the idea of equality.

I have so much to give the world for how much I love it, and I’m not even started.

If I look into the eyes of someone I love, to tell them everything is going to be okay, my fears dissolve.

As if confidence is just a choice.

Watching how some folks are living their lives, in the midst of all we are facing, it must be.

Off topic, but #finalfantasy8 is my favorite in the series. Why? The protagonist learns how to love, how to be a good friend, and how to care about more than just himself. The plot is definitely ridiculous, but the theme is heartfelt. Thanks to my brother for this awesome shirt.

Bandmates. I often think how I would form projects if they weren’t a band, but I know it would have to be something similar. It’s the connection formed from the vibrant alliance of creativity that makes being in a band so unique. (Ben: left. Patrick: middle.)

What was the start of all of this? When did the cogs of fate begin to turn?

The crux of it all is that we are ill. Poisoned by our technology; lured into an age of demise; consumed by greed and short sightedness. We no longer dream of the future and what is good for us. But we can. Everyone is capable of grasping the cusp of a better world. Even in this darkness.

We bought two Egnater Tweaker 88 heads (one is otw) and Marshall 2x12 vertical speaker cabinets with Celestine seventy 80s. It sounds pretty good. Egnaters are very versatile tube amps that get some excellent distortion. The pair of amps will be used for The Dolltones. I’m stoked.

6) if we don’t learn to take collective responsibility for our actions as a whole, we will die. I’m sure of it. And all our hopes and dreams will perish in a cloud of toxic smoke. And that means humbling accepting each of our individual roles to help ourselves and each other to survive as a species.

5) what I mean is that *we* are responsible. Not *them*. We, all of us, in total, are responsible. Like two kids getting in a fight. One calls the other names. The other punches. Who do we blame? Both. Because they’re both involved and both made choices.

4) but one thing that shakes me is how everyone seems to want to blame the government. For the fires, for the hurricane, for everything. Everyone wants to believe they’re independent until something tragic happens, then it’s someone else’s fault. Look, forget the government. It’s on *us*. Just us.

3) what I mean is that Southerners live independently and are focused on survival, but they also help each other. Even those who lost their homes still go and hand out food at the donation centers. It’s just because “that’s what you do” and no other reason. If only that’s how we always felt.

2) what’s the worst part? The politics. One thing that I learn every day in the South, as someone who grew up in California: when bad things happen you have to put down the pitchforks and grab chainsaws. It’s enough to make me believe in something good about people, even in these times.
