Oh fun little aside. The lower your credit score the harder it is to build back up, the better your score the easier it is to keep it high. Your score can fluctuate most easily in the mid range.

Does having multiple credit cards help your credit? Yes? Store credit cards are often the worst for your credit. Each time you open one it hurts your credit, then if you don't use it and it closes that also hurts your credit. Store credit cards are bad if you are not intentional. Don't get them. 🧵✂️

What is a healthy mix of active debt? Personal loan like...personal loans or secured loans, collateralized loans like car loans or mortgages,and liens of credit like credit cards. This mix helps to build credit. Credit cards help to maintain credit because they have long history. 🧵

Inquiries, credit pulls, new debt, delinquent payments, charge offs, bankruptcy, and most surprising to people - paying off a loan. These things hurt your credit, some more than others.

Paying off hurts your credit because that history of debt is now over, closed, done. Only active debt helps you.🧵

Credit reports list your active debts and continue to show satisfied obligations for at least 7 years. To build and maintain good credit you just have an active mix of debt, reliably pay them on time, and keep a low use of credit lines.
