@6502nerd.bsky.social
Retro coder and homebrew computer maker, fan of all things 6502, electronics and retro computers in general. Z80 vs 6502? I don't care they're both in computers I loved back in the day. Oric, Atari and Amiga were my childhood machines!

Blinkenlights are back - computers seem more 'alive' when they're flickering lights at you, and if you know what to look for it can even give an idea of what the machine is doing!

Doh meant to post YT link to show tweaked background graphics with Death Star rising up from the horizon!

Tweaked the game a bit - improved the backdrop graphics with a proper Death Star that come up over the horizon! This will go up on GitHub soon.
I think it looks a lot better and quicker to draw than the method of drawing circles to make a Death Star!

Made some cosmetic tweaks - new backdrop graphics and animation. Proper Death Star vs drawing one using circles!

Port of a game from dflat to native Oric - easier for folks to try using emulator or even real machine.
I've made some improvements too e.g. the game music which is a decent rendition (not by me!) of a legendary electronic track.

Work has been keeping me crazy busy. But had a nice surprise today at an event hosted by the National Edge AI Hub at @newcastleuni.bsky.social
They have a small display of computing history and I was delighted that my dear Oric-1 features!π€π€

I have once again created a charity Retro Computer calendar for 2026!! Last year you helped raise Β£44 for charity by downloading my calendar. Let's try and beat that this year!! π Thank you!!

Programming 8 bit games in C targeting the Oric 6502 based micro.
Here's one example converted from dflat a BASIC like language I developed for my homebrew computer π€

I remember seeing that at the time and thinking it was a bit unusual Paul Hardcastle's track being in the charts!

16.10.2025 19:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We learnt Pascal for A level at college. It was designed for education so it's decent I think.
But by my second year I was using C on my Amiga A500 and I liked that more!
My favorite is C/C++
Pascal is nice too.
For retro kicks 68000 and 6502 assembly language is great.
BASIC is nostalgic but not as interesting as I found it way back when..
Tbf I can see how bad that is compared to the crt tv RF display.. So indeed as I suspected alas I do not have an old school crt tv.. Yet! π€
15.10.2025 08:13 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Haven't seen an RF display for years. I think I do have an older lcd TV that supports it but I'm sure the even older analogue crt are more sympathetic to weak and wobbly RF? π€

The Oric has a decent sound chip, I think it does a good job here, and now super easy to add high quality tracks to your games!

My first computer was bought for me in 1983, an Oric-1.
I learned to program on that and it started everything for me.
Best of all I still have it and even still making things for it!
A Microtan65 should be on display!
