The Hardest Step in Change Isnโ€™t Starting. Itโ€™s Asking for Support. โ€” Cat Sprague Something I have been thinking about all year: change. I have been so many versions of myself. I have a partner now that watches it unfold and supports the journey. That was not always the case. โ€ฆ

Change is fragile in the beginning. Protect it by surrounding it with people who understand that supporting you doesnโ€™t mean fixing you, it means standing beside you while you practice becoming www.catsprague.com/blog/the-har...

Starting something new, whether itโ€™s meditation, moving your body differently, or putting down the wine glass at night, usually doesnโ€™t fail because the act itself is impossible. It fails because the first step bumps into old patterns, not just yours, but the ones you share with others.

In short: observe, donโ€™t react. Thatโ€™s how you prevent karmic patterns from controlling you and start creating conscious, new karma.

How to Practice

Notice your thoughts, emotions, or impulses as if you were watching clouds pass in the sky.
Label them gently (โ€œanger,โ€ โ€œfear,โ€ โ€œhopeโ€) without judgment.
Allow them to arise and fade, rather than feeding them with action or rumination.

Why it matters:

It breaks cycles of reactive behavior.
It lets you respond intentionally rather than habitually.
It cultivates inner freedom and clarity.

Observation without reaction ~
The goal is to notice these impulses, memories, or patterns as they arise without immediately acting on them. This prevents old karma from dictating new actions.

Karmic residue = past impressions
These are the lingering effects of your past actions, thoughts, or experiences that color your current reactions. For example, a past hurt might make you defensive, or a past kindness might make you overly hopeful.

27.09.2025 16:24 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

A core teaching in mindfulness and meditation practice is to observe karmic residue without reaction.

Now, bring to mind the image of vibrant autumn leaves, swirling and dancing as they gently drift to the ground. Let each falling leaf represent a thought, a worry, or a stressor you're ready to let go of.
