Headquarters for decades and is the place many colleagues call home. So do I. Today my thoughts are with everyone who lost loved ones on 9/11, and with all the people of New York City.

Despite extremely difficult circumstances, more than 560,000 children in Gaza have been vaccinated against polio during the first round of our emergency campaign. My gratitude to health workers, partners & all involved to ensure we reached 90% vaccination coverage.

As we open the 79th #UNGA Session, we confront a world in trouble. But the good news is that we can do something about it. This is the place where solutions are made. And we need solutions across the board

member countries are in the final stages of negotiating three agreements to be adopted at the Summit of the Future next week. My appeal: Make sure they are as ambitious as possible – to restore the hope and trust we need for #OurCommonFuture.

Congratulations to Philemon Yang of Cameroon on assuming the Presidency of the 79th #UNGA session. The General Assembly remains an indispensable tool in confronting the challenges before us and a vital pathway towards a peaceful and just future for all people.

My sincere thanks to Dennis Francis of Trinidad and Tobago for his leadership as President of the 78th #UNGA session. I appreciate his work in advancing preparations for the Summit of the Future this month, and his tireless advocacy for gender equality and youth participation.

As the #Paris2024 Paralympics come to an end, I want to share my admiration & recognition to all participants, including members of the Refugee Paralympic Team. Your strength and determination are an inspiration to us all!

25 years since the people of Timor-Leste overwhelmingly chose independence, we cannot forget the courage and sacrifice of the Timorese resistance. I was moved and honoured to meet a few of the brave women veterans who risked everything to see independence realized.

Pacific Island nations are in grave danger. Relative sea levels in the Southwestern Pacific have risen even more than the global average. But what happens here doesn’t end here.

Humanity is treating the sea like a sewer. Plastic pollution is choking sea life. Greenhouse gases are causing ocean heating, acidification & accelerating rise in sea levels.

Just as I was talking to children & young people in Tonga today about the importance of disaster preparedness, we experienced an earthquake. Thanks to early warning systems, we were soon informed that there was no threat of a tsunami.

In Tashkent today, I visited this impressive photovoltaic plant. The harnessing of solar power on such a scale demonstrates Uzbekistan's commitment to reduce its dependence on fossil fuels and embrace renewable energy sources.

Today I visited a mahalla - a traditional community-based neighbourhood organization, and an integral part of Uzbekistan's social structure. It is inspiring to see how mahallas are leading the way in sustainable development by empowering residents & fostering social cohesion.
