COVID was the ruling classes experiment to see if people would give up on the social contract to prioritize themselves, once they saw people were willing to let disabled, elderly and poor people die for their own convenience, they have slowly taken the mask fully off day by day and now we are here.

If we're being really real about this, this is how the party has behaved in Congress since the Strom Thurmond era. It's the same behavior, same strategy, same orientation, adapted through time.

If they have a lot of seats, then a huge portion of their caucus are moderates. If they have a minority or small majority, then they have only a few moderates, but *just enough* that somehow they always enable the GOP position to win out in any major debate. This is not a coincidence.

I have been following national Congressional politics since I was a teenager in Obama I. This is how it always works. Regardless of their actual seat totals, The Democrats "somehow" always have just enough moderates (not too many or too little) that they concede to the GOP on every major issue.

I don't know what to tell anybody who actually thinks any of these Senate Dems give a shit about SNAP recipients, lol. Like that's just not their motive! That's not why they're caving! If it were then, well, see below...

The thing to remember is that HSAs are necessarily paired with a "High-Deductable Health Care Plan". That's like, part of the definition. Under the law introduced under George W. Bush you *must* be using an HDHP or you're not allowed to contribute money to the HSA.

Republicans are starting to talk about HSAs again so I want everyone to be super clear what a non-solution HSAs are. They work for a very limited range of people. If you have under $100/mo health costs, or tens of thousands of dollars a year, they can work. Have moderate ongoing costs? You're fucked

I say this as someone who agonizes over every word and who, for months of this year, couldn’t find it in him to write a damn thing: it still brings me a pleasure nothing else does. Even some crappy bulletin with barely any creative content is more fun than most things I do with my time.
