Saw a video today of Laura Palmer in β€œFire Walk With Me,” screaming in the Red Room.

Haven’t felt that seen in a while.

Nobody Wants to Be a Foodie How β€œfoodie” went from badge of honor to cringey term to pejorative smear and all the way back again.

Here it is, my last piece for @eater.bsky.social: my treatise on the last 20 years of food culture, and how food turned into fandom. I really hope you read it. www.eater.com/food-culture...

Had never heard of this variety until yesterday. And then BAM on my timeline. Confirmation bias is fascinating.

Hummus, once an β€œethnic oddity," is now a potluck staple. Could lentils follow the same path? Writer Khalil Akhtar wonders if, in the current β€œBuy Canadian” era, the legume finally has a chance to stand beside maple syrup or rye whisky. thewalrus.ca/canada-grows-a-h...

Canada Grows a Hell of a Lot of Lentils. Why Won’t We Eat Them? | The Walrus It’s time for the humble legume to cross the bridge from crop to cuisine

Digging this new story in @thewalrus.ca by Khalil Akhtar about how Canada grows much of the world's lentils, yet we eat so few of them in this country.

Been watching a former teacher of mine put up his record collection on Discogs. He has been collecting since the 60’s. It’s insane what is in there. Nico. Garage Rock. Rare folk albums. Psych. Blues.

This is the teacher who noticed I was reading Lenny Bruce and approved.

I work as an editor and in acquisitions for a publisher, so I spend my day reading. I make a point of taking a work reading break by taking a daily pleasure reading break. Sometimes it's an article or a chapter in a book that has no bearing to my other work. It reminds me of why I love to read.

I have to admit to a dislike of overuse of exclamation points. Note that I said overuse

I remember reading a cookbook by a known authority on the subject at hand, and the amount of exclamation points made their enthusiasm for the stories seem disingenuous by the end of the book.

Illustration from 1907 showing a detailed side view of a Shad fish (Alosa sapidissima) native to North Carolina. The fish is elongated with a silver body, subtle yellow and blue shading, and three small black spots along its midsection. It has a forked tail, translucent fins, and a large eye near its pointed head. The image is part of the N.C. Geological and Economic Survey, Plate 5, and is set against a soft green gradient background. The illustration highlights the fish's scale texture and anatomical features for scientific reference.
