New book arrived today. I’m looking forward to learning about him and his dog.

I’ve been reading this one, it’s a history of Henry VIII’s fleet and it’s very interesting. I knew Henry was quite keen on his ships, but there are a lot of fascinating details that I didn’t know about.

Went to see Gladiator 2 tonight. Obviously, not accurate at all, but that doesn’t matter. I enjoyed it, it was good. It was an incredible spectacle.

Just discovered one of my favourite harsh judgements in a history book, from “Black Redcoats” by Matthew Taylor (heartily recommended!):

“A prolific writer of panicked missives to superiors and subordinates, Brigadier General Winder was an opponent that an invading force would wish to face.”

All the pitches were good, so this was hard to decide, but I think I’ll have to go Marmont here.

There’s no such thing as too many books! I think I would be in trouble otherwise.
