18.02.2026 02:58 β π 254 π 57 π¬ 9 π 1if this is gonna happen in under a month to every multiplayer game that has almost a decade in the oven then at the very least it should just be open sourced and left to the laid off devs to do whatever with. literally the least you can do

I shared the full chart of the top 20 best-selling Chinese premium games in 2025 and wrote a recap of all the drama, controversies and review bombs. Also includes some personal game recs and commentary

The Sharp Rateca Puter. Up top, left to right: a collapsable TV/radio antenna, brightness and contrast dials, a giant speaker, a smaller speaker, and input for the tapedeck, with the play counters that were more common on the day. Face, left to right: A 4.5 inch CRT (behind a plastic guard), VHF/UHF and radio dials, channel and band selectors (TV/COMP, FM, Shortwave, and Middlewave), the "RATECA PUTER' logo on the battery gauge, AFC switch, mode selector, tape deck controls, audio controls for balance, bass, treble, and volume, and a mollyguard to prevent dials and switches from being mashed (the mollyguard being a signature of Sharp's boomboxes of the time). Face, low: the collapsable carrying handle that doubles as a stand; computer power button; slide-out chiclet keyboard based on Sharp calculators of the day, with number pad; an LED clock, clock controls, alarm controls. Right side: mic jacks, earphone jacks in two different sizes, beat cut switch, fan exhaust, DC and AC power plugs, and a printer port (!). Help I'm trapped in an alt text factory
In the 70s, Sharp had a series of "Latte case" boomboxes; as the line went on, more and more got put into it, like TVs. One of the last in the line was the RatecaPuter - a latte-case boombox with a 2KB computer that could run SHARP Basic programs off of the built in tape deck.

For Black History month: Muriel Tramis.
Known as the "French Roberta Williams", she's way more than that. Among the first black women game designers, her first games were her love letter to Martinique, MΓ©wilo (87), and the incredible strategy game about slavery, Freedom: Rebels in the Darkness (90)
Something I've been thinking about more is that, yes old games were pumped out because of insane labor crimes *but the art still exists* Unlike today where we are still putting humans in a meat grinder to make something, but that something is valueless ephemera from gamefied gambling houses or multiplayer games that live for less than a year and then die with no way to ever access them again I don't justify Chrono Trigger putting people in the hospital because I can still play it, but I can at least still fucking play it
Been thinking about Highguard and the impermanence of games these days (which is to say, moreso that usual)

i'm making a #QBasic game using mode 13h, 320x200 8bpp. i'm using VGA line doubling to make it 320x100 then horizontally doubling each pixel for 160x100
i use a palette with 3 bits red/green and 2 blue, and "subpixel dither" in between colors. here's a thread of images showing what that's like

You know what, just hopped over to stoat.chat and giving it a go. Open-source, european, transparent roadmap, with identity-per-server, voice chat, self-host, server basic customisation already in so. Web +Unpacked linux client that works fine and I can wait for screenshare and all else.

Adobe making a great example that using proprietary software anywhere in your development is a massive liability, even if you fork over buckets of money. Why should people invest time and money learning your software if you just do this with no recourse.
