Shout out to Swifts this #WorldMigratoryBirdDay!

These aerial acrobats have left our skies for winter, but fewer Swifts are returning to Scotland in spring each year.

Yesterday the Scottish Government announced a further delay to the implementation of muirburn licencing.

That very same day, a muirburn in Aberdeenshire got out of control and started a wildfire.

We can’t afford any more delay. 👇

Scotland's first nature-friendly farming summit created a real buzz earlier this week. 🐝🐄🚜

One of the most impactful parts of the day was when farmers from across Scotland shared stories about their journey to nature-friendly farming.

We are delighted to be at the Scottish Summit of the Nature Friendly Farming Network today!

Across the country, pioneering farmers and crofters are proving nature-friendly farming can produce the food we need while looking after nature and our climate 🐦🌻🚜.

We are pleased to see strong support in today’s report from the committee for the introduction of legal nature restoration targets, along with reforms to deer management and National Parks.

It is also reassuring that they recognised that Part 2 of the bill poses a significant risk to wildlife in our most iconic landscapes.

RSPB Scotland remains convinced that Part 2 of the Natural Environment Bill is unnecessary.

We are calling on the Scottish Government to remove or significantly amend this section.

🚨Good to see today's committee report calling for major improvements to Scotland’s new nature law.

Part 2 of the Natural Environment Bill could significantly weaken protections for Scotland’s wildlife – from seabird colonies at Bass Rock to Golden Eagles in the Cairngorms.

It must be fixed!

We're incredibly concerned about the welfare of two satellite-tagged golden eagles, Tarras and Wren, that have recently disappeared in Dumfries and Galloway.

Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland.

“This is a very dark day for seabirds.
Berwick Bank would be catastrophic for Scotland’s globally important seabirds which are already facing alarming declines. Its impacts are so damaging it will make it very difficult for other, less-harmful windfarms to come forward. We are incredibly concerned that Scottish Government have granted consent for a project which could catapult some of Scotland’s most-loved seabird species towards extinction.”

A dark day for Scotland’s seabirds.

We're incredibly concerned that Scottish Government have granted consent for the Berwick Bank offshore windfarm, which could catapult some of our most vulnerable species toward extinction 🚨

We will carefully scrutinise the details and consider our next steps.

This is predicted to be one of the most damaging windfarms for birds we are aware of anywhere on the planet.

We’re very disappointed to hear today that plans for a new National Park in Galloway have been scrapped.

It’s been over 20 years since Scotland created its only two National Parks. Loch Lomond & The Trossachs and the Cairngorms have since evolved into important landscapes for both people and nature.

A third National Park in Scotland – in Galloway or elsewhere – would bring huge benefits for nature, communities and climate.

The Scottish Government must now step up and take urgent action to show it is committed to tackling the nature and climate crisis.

This news makes it even more vital the Natural Environment Bill drives the nature recovery we so desperately need.

Today, we handed in a petition with over 100,000 voices calling on the UK Chancellor not to cut the budget for nature friendly farming.

This matters to Scotland because if the UK budget is cut, it is harder to secure funding for Scottish farmers and crofters to support nature.

• Restoring peatlands
• Expanding native woodlands

We're calling on Scottish Ministers to say no to #BerwickBank.

The proposed wind farm could kill & displace thousands of seabirds in the Forth.

Refusing consent could make way for more nature positive offshore projects.
