behind these case studies are lessons in #ai literacy
hyperreality, constructs upon constructs

to be a middle schooler, all the ones I work with decided as a group, all at once to join social media, what a time to be growing up trying to decode this world!

Baudrillard's hyperreality, not surprising, I mean our current political media, serious multiverse of realities

for education this is not a crisis
when tech moves this fast it can be disorienting
add to this disorientation that our normal models rely on a kind of Vygotskyan Activity Theory, tool extends the reach of learning objective...

...but here, we make the tools as needed

here is where I turn to every academic who lived behind the iron curtain, to every Colombian academic who stayed sane through la violencia - we have to find the work arounds to the oppression if our lawmakers and judicial cannot protect us from a rogue executive. #2026elections

I hear you on the hype
and I think the best test of any model is just put it to work, how does it handle a bunch of seemingly disparate inquiry?
Can it suggest curricular alignment from any given text we read?

So far, this has been the ultimate teacher tool, can't wait to test out the updates.

I would say Ai is largely doing this. We used to turn to social media, conferences, and like-minded colleagues from online coursework, and we still do that, but now Ai can be a live time differentiator for on campus PD. That, and host on campus EdCamps or Un-conferences.

where are you stakeholders on the use of #ai in the classroom?
This 2025/2026 school year will need explicit policy on #aiineducation

and continued conversations on how
Ai literacy is epistemic literacy

sentiment and perceptions of #aiineducation are all over the place

know your community
communicate an #ai policy
document and publish the uses of LLM's in the classroom

inventory writing and thinking processes
close the devices whenever necessary

considering the libertarian (conservative?) viewpoint
perhaps students who are using #ai for paper writing shouldn't really be in college

I would add, neglect of writing processes questions the integrity of the institution

for those that work as reflective practitioners, in spaces where tired minds often make bad decisions, the LLM's make total sense, we don't expect them to be right all the time

it's constructive play, with very serious outcomes

shift in mobile users, #meta
threads closing the gap on #x
although this doesn't account for desktop users (X still way ahead)

what @techcrunch.com
should get data on is the niche use of other social media apps, how professional use has moved off of X

... but calculator? We are teaching students delegable cognition and the design of thinking systems.

Just like "hallucination", we are going to need better ways of talking about non-deterministic outputs.

constantly fascinated in how LLM's both capture the metaphorical mind (stochastic parrot, cognitive exoskeleton) and provoke analogies to something in our experience (GPS vs self driving car, autocomplete on steroids)

I approach it more through James/Dewey pragmatism, Vygotsky's cognitive extension through social interaction (although that kind of makes us look at each other as tools), phenomenology and embodied cognition, and just pure socratic theory.

I think Bateman "social safety" rounds this out even more.

It sounds like the basis for an argument answering "why school?"

Agree wholeheartedly in communities of learners where a teacher is a critical facilitator of "caves" and "campfires" and experiences, leading to the "attentiveness" mentioned in his article.

There is a lot more to this...

What we need is the early days of social media where teachers shared uninhibited. Ai won't fix education, teachers savvy in higher order thinking, collaborative learning, deep metacognition, and multimodality will. They are the ones who will put #ai to intelligent use. #aiineducation

So thoughtful, thank you. Before I am pro-Ai, I am pro-teachers. Pandemic and post-pandemic gutted the profession. For some of us it is like waking up asking, where did everyone go? Ai is babble and the wrong individualized approach to learning without good teachers. #aiineducation

I would argue this is more correlate than causal
what IS happening is a rigid system is being exposed, it is fragile

what we need are better, more agile undergraduate learning experiences

1 professionals, you must have seasoned teachers on board with the mission

2 hyper individualization vs collaborative learning, validating the one and the many

3 the balance between the motor of routines and spikes in motivation

... or you'll likely be raising illeterates

Interesting that in Patrick Meyer's future of education, the teacher seems to be absent, parents will just demand their wants and needs.

I work in a micro school that aspires to many of these ideals and I see where this breaks down...
