Someone worthwhile wrote something worthwhile. David Walker — longtime writer-journalist-filmmaker-teacher and someone who’s worked phenomenally hard to get stories out in the world — wrote a YA novel, THE SECOND CHANCE OF DARIUS LOGAN. Darius Logan is a young man who lives in a world with superheroes, mutated “meta-humans,” and aliens; his parents and brother died in a massive attack by a supervillain, and his life ever since has been difficult. Darius, however, is diverted from possible prison time and joins the support team of Super Justice Force, where he works with heroes, reformed villains, and kids with mutant powers. I’ve read a version of DARIUS LOGAN Walker self-published before. That was good. This is better, significantly rewritten and with not just bigger stakes, but a deep sense of justice, and is now available from Scholastic Books, the A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS publishers. Which means it’s available through Scholastic’s book fairs, where I so hope it finds an audience.
I’ve happily read THE SECOND CHANCE OF DARIUS LOGAN, a YA novel by good writer and good person @davidfwalker.bsky.social.

I love it when a comic book panel makes me do a reread like “did I really just read that?” 😂 There is so much of it on this page alone. This was a fun book.

I, too, remember watching Godzilla movies as a kid, although in central time the movies were at 3:30. Seemed to have a giant monster week every summer, and my friends and I would stop playing outside to go watch the movies. Looking forward to reading this book.
