"These other people made me enact terrible policy" is a really twisted way to frame this, and makes the voters look even more narcissistic and greedy than if it had been left unsaid. Everybody is responsible for their own actions.

1/3 It's official, our grants from the NIH/NIEHS have all been suspended. We were aiming to understand how arsenic, a chemical that millions of Americans are exposed to at high levels, is disrupting the epigenetic machinery.

“With these considerations, we expect to fund through the 4th percentile.”

There it is, in black and white, the destruction of cancer research in the US.

Yikes, that's awful. Doesn't even consider the Ukrainian perspective at all and denies the very real agency of Ukrainians in this moment. He also ignores the death and destruction that awaits Ukraine if there's capitulation. What a hypocritical ghoul of a person, showing false concern.

U.S. abandons hunt for signal of cosmic inflation Now-canceled CMB-S4 project would have searched the afterglow of the Big Bang for signs of cosmic exponential growth spurt

Awful news: CMB-S4 is cancelled.

This experiment was massively exciting for the cosmology community. It would have told us about the state of the universe some 400,000 years after the big bang, at a level of precision we can now only dream about

Major autism study uncovers biologically distinct subtypes, paving the way for precision diagnosis and care The research is a transformative step toward understanding the condition's genetic underpinnings and potential for personalized care.

This a big deal, and could complicate an already complex political situation:

We *will* lose that position, it's already happening. If the FY26 federal budget is anything like what the Republicans in Congress are pushing, we're done. Heartbreaking and calamitous.

I never imagined the US voluntarily ceding scientific and technical leadership to China, but here we are 💔.

The Bluffs is now accepting applications

It's extremely common in Santa Cruz to deride as "not affordable" these very same deed-restricted below-market-rate homes that so-called "inclusionary zoning" policy generates. Even at 100% BMR projects!! See, for example: www.reddit.com/r/santacruz/...

Seems like even if the concept had been around, maybe people didn't talk about it until it was violated by Russia in their 2014 invasion of Ukraine?

"The Civil War was about states' rights and economic differences" is a very similar type of one-level indirection.

I am again asking for any scholarly documentation of induced housing demand from building housing. It doesn't exist, in that I have not found it, and nobody saying it induced housing demand exists has ever been able to document it. It's an important pojnt!

04.07.2025 16:06 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Do you have a scholarly documentation of this happening? I would imagine that given the extensive study of gentrification, it should be possible to show this? It's not really the housing causing it though, it's investing in underinvested communities' amenities. Still not housing induced demand.

04.07.2025 14:08 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

I challenge you to find a single scholarly documentation of induced demand by building housing. This isn't roads, induced demand for housing doesn't make any sense logically at all, and it's not extensively document like induced traffic demand.

It is beyond parody of ignorance! Phillip H Gordon was Harris' NatSec advisor, had helped negotiate the initial deal with Iran that Trump tore up. War mongering Republicans were hitting Harris continually for being soft on Iran because Gordon was so good at peaceful control of Iran!

Might be worth looking into Cloudflare R2, they don't charge for egress. However I'm not currently hosting any data for the genome browser there.

I'll have to find that episode. But at least in the people I know, everyone is trying to save money and spend less, which is a typical cause of recessions. And friends who work at big retailers seem to say that purchasing is down. I used to think the president didn't have much economic influence 😖

EPA Will Not Evaluate Asbestos in Homes and Buildings The Environmental Protection Agency will not evaluate the health risks of asbestos already in the environment when evaluating the dangers associated with it, Scott Pruitt announced quietly last week.

Can't read the article, but Trump's love for asbestos was prominent during his first term too. He thinks asbestos harm is a "mob-led conspiracy," like any other penny-pinching landlord www.newsweek.com/pruitt-trump...
